Rothenberger SUPER FIRE 2 Brazing Torch Instruction Manual

Model: 35645M

1. Introduction

This instruction manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of your Rothenberger SUPER FIRE 2 Brazing Torch. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the torch and retain it for future reference. Proper understanding and adherence to these instructions will ensure optimal performance and user safety.

The Rothenberger SUPER FIRE 2 is a high-performance brazing torch designed for various heating, soldering, and brazing applications. It is supplied with a safety adapter for secure gas cylinder connection.

2. Safety Information

WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in serious injury, fire, or property damage.

  • Always operate the torch in a well-ventilated area to prevent the accumulation of hazardous fumes.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, heat-resistant gloves, and protective clothing.
  • Keep flammable materials and liquids away from the work area.
  • Ensure the gas cylinder is securely connected and upright during use.
  • Check all connections for leaks using a leak detection spray before ignition. Never use an open flame to check for leaks.
  • Do not point the torch flame at yourself, other people, or animals.
  • Allow the torch and workpiece to cool completely before handling or storing.
  • Store gas cylinders in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  • Never attempt to modify the torch or its components. Use only genuine Rothenberger replacement parts.

3. Components

Familiarize yourself with the main components of your Rothenberger SUPER FIRE 2 Brazing Torch:

  • Burner Tip: Where the flame is produced.
  • Burner Tube: Connects the tip to the torch body.
  • Torch Body/Handle: Main housing containing controls.
  • Gas Control Knob: Adjusts gas flow and flame intensity.
  • Ignition Switch (ON/OFF): Activates the piezoelectric igniter and controls gas flow.
  • Gas Cylinder Connection: Point for attaching the gas cylinder, often with a safety adapter.

4. Setup

  1. Prepare Work Area: Ensure your work area is clean, well-ventilated, and free from flammable materials. Have a fire extinguisher readily available.
  2. Attach Safety Adapter: If not already attached, securely screw the safety adapter onto the gas cylinder. Ensure a tight seal.
  3. Connect Torch to Gas Cylinder: Carefully screw the torch handle onto the safety adapter or directly onto the gas cylinder, depending on your cylinder type. Hand-tighten only. Do not overtighten.
  4. Check for Leaks: Apply a leak detection spray (e.g., soapy water) to all connections. If bubbles appear, tighten the connection slightly. If leaks persist, disconnect and re-examine the seals or replace the cylinder/adapter. Do not proceed if a leak is detected.
  5. Position Cylinder: Ensure the gas cylinder is in an upright and stable position during operation.

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Open Gas Flow: Slowly turn the gas control knob counter-clockwise to open the gas flow. You should hear a faint hiss of gas.
  2. Ignite Torch: Press and hold the red ON/OFF ignition switch. The piezoelectric igniter will spark, igniting the gas. If the torch does not ignite immediately, release the switch, wait a few seconds, and try again.
  3. Adjust Flame: Once ignited, adjust the gas control knob to achieve the desired flame size and intensity. A blue, sharp flame is typically ideal for brazing.
  4. Perform Work: Direct the flame towards the workpiece, maintaining a safe distance.
  5. Shut Down: When finished, first turn the gas control knob clockwise to fully close the gas flow. The flame will extinguish. Then, release the ON/OFF ignition switch.
  6. Disconnect Cylinder (for storage): If storing the torch for an extended period, allow it to cool completely, then carefully disconnect it from the gas cylinder.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your torch.

  • Cleaning: Keep the burner tip and air inlets clean and free from debris. Use a soft brush if necessary. Do not use abrasive cleaners or sharp objects.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the torch for any signs of damage, wear, or loose connections. Pay close attention to the gas hose (if applicable) and seals.
  • Storage: Store the torch in a clean, dry place, away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight. Ensure it is disconnected from the gas cylinder when not in use.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your torch, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Flame:
    • Ensure the gas cylinder is not empty.
    • Check that the gas control knob is open.
    • Verify the ignition switch is fully pressed.
    • Inspect the burner tip for blockages.
  • Unstable or Weak Flame:
    • Check gas cylinder pressure; it may be low.
    • Ensure the gas control knob is fully open.
    • Clean the burner tip and air inlets.
    • Verify proper connection to the gas cylinder.
  • Smell of Gas:
    • Immediately shut off the gas supply at the cylinder.
    • Move to a well-ventilated area.
    • Check all connections for leaks using leak detection spray.
    • Do not operate the torch until the leak is found and repaired.

If problems persist after attempting these solutions, contact Rothenberger customer support.
