The top panel has a perforated design for ventilation. On the right side of the device, when viewed from the front, is the DC power input port. This port is used to connect the provided power adapter to the switch.

4. Setup

4.1 Hardware Installation

  1. Power Connection: Connect the provided power adapter to the DC power input port on the side of the switch. Plug the other end of the power adapter into a standard electrical outlet. The Power LED (if separate, otherwise implied by port LEDs) should illuminate.
  2. Network Device Connection: Connect your network devices (e.g., computers, printers, network-attached storage, routers) to any of the 8 RJ45 ports on the front panel using standard Ethernet cables. The switch supports Auto MDI/MDIX, so you can use either straight-through or crossover cables.
  3. Verification: Once devices are connected, the corresponding Link/Act LED for each active port should light up, indicating a successful connection. Blinking LEDs signify network activity.

The Netis ST3108S is a plug-and-play device, requiring no software configuration for basic operation.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 LED Indicators

The LEDs on the front panel provide visual feedback on the switch's status and network activity:

  • Power LED: (If separate, otherwise implied by port LEDs) Indicates the switch is powered on.
  • Link/Act LEDs (for each RJ45 port):
    • Solid Green: A device is successfully connected to the port.
    • Blinking Green: Data is being transmitted or received through the port.
    • Off: No device is connected to the port, or the connected device is powered off.

5.2 Basic Operation

Once powered on and connected to network devices, the switch automatically detects the speed and duplex mode of connected devices (10Mbps or 100Mbps, half-duplex or full-duplex) and adjusts accordingly. Data packets are forwarded efficiently between connected devices.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Netis ST3108S switch, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the switch. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.
  • Environment: Place the switch in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight, excessive heat, moisture, or dust.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation holes on the device are not blocked.
  • Do Not Disassemble: Do not attempt to open or repair the switch yourself. This will void the warranty and may cause damage or injury.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Netis ST3108S switch, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No PowerPower adapter not connected or faulty.Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to the switch and a working electrical outlet. Check the power adapter for damage.
No Link/Act LED for a connected deviceEthernet cable issue, device powered off, or faulty port.
  • Verify the Ethernet cable is securely plugged into both the switch and the device.
  • Try a different Ethernet cable.
  • Ensure the connected device is powered on and functioning correctly.
  • Try connecting to a different port on the switch.
Slow Network SpeedCable quality, network congestion, or device limitations.
  • Ensure you are using appropriate Ethernet cables (e.g., Cat5e or Cat6 for optimal performance, though this is a 10/100 switch).
  • Reduce the number of active devices or heavy network usage.
  • Check the network settings of connected devices.
