Microsoft Surface Type Cover 2 User Manual

Model: N7W-00004

Introduction

The Microsoft Surface Type Cover 2 is a thin, lightweight, and illuminated keyboard designed to enhance the functionality of your compatible Surface device. It provides a traditional typing experience with the added convenience of backlit keys for use in various lighting conditions. This accessory integrates a full QWERTY keyboard, a complete set of Function keys, Windows shortcut keys, media controls, and a built-in trackpad.

When not in use, the Type Cover 2 serves as a protective cover for your Surface screen, safeguarding it from bumps and scratches.

Setup

To attach the Type Cover 2 to your Surface device, align the magnetic connector on the keyboard with the corresponding port on the bottom edge of your Surface. The magnets will guide the cover into place, establishing an instant connection. Ensure the connection is secure before use.

Operating Instructions

Typing and Keyboard Features

The Type Cover 2 features a full QWERTY keyboard layout, providing a familiar and comfortable typing experience. It includes a complete row of Function keys (F1-F12), dedicated Windows shortcut keys for quick access to common functions, and media controls for audio and video playback.

Backlit Keys

The keys are backlit, allowing for comfortable typing in low-light environments. The backlighting automatically adjusts based on ambient light conditions or can be manually controlled. This feature helps conserve battery life by dimming or turning off when not actively typing.

Trackpad Usage

A built-in trackpad is located below the keyboard, offering precise cursor control and multi-touch gestures. This allows for navigation of the Windows interface without needing to touch the screen directly, providing a laptop-like experience.

Maintenance and Protection

To protect your Surface device's screen, simply close the Type Cover 2 over the display. The cover will magnetically secure itself, shielding the screen from dust, scratches, and minor impacts. Closing the cover also typically puts your Surface into a sleep state, conserving power.

Troubleshooting

If the Type Cover 2 does not respond after initial connection to your Surface device, perform the following steps:

  1. Ensure the magnetic connection between the Type Cover 2 and your Surface is firm and properly aligned.
  2. With the Type Cover 2 still attached, restart your Surface device. This often resolves connectivity issues.
  3. Check for any pending software updates for your Surface device, as these may include driver updates for accessories.

If issues persist, consult the official Microsoft Surface support resources online.
