  • On-Demand Air: An intelligent multi-inflator with an easy-read gauge provides up to 100 PSI for inflating tires, sports equipment, and more. An inflating accessory kit with quick-connect locking inflator and fill nozzle/inflation needle is included.
  • Retractable Power Cord: A 25 ft. auto-retractable utility cord with an adjustable ball stop allows you to set the desired length, providing a 10-amp power outlet wherever needed.
  • Integrated Lighting: Features an LED work light on the handheld unit with a built-in hook for hands-free convenience, offering 100,000 hours of working life. Additionally, overhead task lighting is provided in the main unit, adding up to 100 watts of illumination to your workspace (bulbs sold separately).

Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the safe and effective operation of your Chamberlain GPS1000. This unit is designed for ceiling mounting.

Mounting Instructions:

  1. Preparation: Identify the desired mounting location on your garage ceiling, ensuring it aligns with a joist for secure attachment. The unit requires two pilot holes 16 inches apart.
  2. Drilling Pilot Holes: Drill two 5/16-inch pilot holes into the ceiling joist(s) at the marked locations.
  3. Securing the Unit: While holding the approximately 20-pound unit against the ceiling, align it with the pilot holes. Use a socket wrench with a 6-inch extension to drive two 2 1/2-inch lag screws (1/4" x 2 1/2" recommended for better durability, as included screws may be prone to shearing) into the joists. It is highly recommended to have a helper for this step due to the unit's weight and awkward positioning. Alternatively, tie-down straps can assist in a one-person installation.
  4. Power Connection: Connect the unit to a suitable power source as per local electrical codes.
  5. Install Overhead Light Bulbs: Note that bulbs for the overhead task lighting are sold separately. Install appropriate bulbs (up to 100 watts total) into the designated sockets on the main unit.

Note: Some users have reported issues with the quality of the included lag screws. Consider purchasing higher-quality 1/4" x 2 1/2" lag screws from a local hardware store for a more secure installation.

Operating Instructions

Using the Retractable Cord and Power Outlet:

  • To extend the cord, gently pull the handheld unit downwards from the ceiling. The cord will automatically extend.
  • To set the desired length, slide the adjustable ball stop along the utility cord and lock it in place. This allows you to customize the hanging depth.
  • Plug in any 10-amp compatible tool or appliance into the power outlet located on the handheld unit.
  • To retract the cord, release the ball stop (if engaged) and guide the handheld unit back towards the ceiling. The cord will automatically retract into the main unit.

Using the Air Compressor:

  • Attach the appropriate inflating accessory (included in the kit) to the quick-connect locking inflator on the handheld unit.
  • Connect the inflator to the item you wish to inflate (e.g., car tire, bike tire, sports ball).
  • The easy-read gauge on the handheld unit will display the current pressure. The compressor can provide up to 100 PSI.
  • Once inflation is complete, disconnect the inflator.

Using the Lighting Features:

  • LED Work Light: The handheld unit features a bright LED work light. This light can be used handheld or hung using its built-in hook for hands-free illumination.
  • Overhead Task Lighting: The two lights on the main ceiling unit will illuminate when the retractable cord is pulled down. These lights provide general area illumination for your workspace. Note that these lights are designed to turn on automatically when the cord is extended and turn off when fully retracted.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Chamberlain GPS1000, follow these general maintenance guidelines:

  • Regular Cleaning: Periodically wipe down the unit and the retractable cord with a clean, damp cloth to remove dust and debris. Ensure the unit is unplugged before cleaning.
  • Cord Inspection: Regularly inspect the retractable cord for any signs of wear, fraying, or damage. If damage is observed, discontinue use and contact customer support.
  • Air Compressor Accessories: Keep the inflating accessory kit clean and free of obstructions. Store accessories properly to prevent loss or damage.
  • Bulb Replacement: If the overhead task lights dim or fail, replace the bulbs as needed. Ensure the unit is powered off before replacing bulbs.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Chamberlain GPS1000, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Air pressure gauge is inaccurate or off.Gauge calibration issue or internal component wear.Use a separate, calibrated pressure gauge to verify readings. If consistently inaccurate, contact Chamberlain support for a replacement gauge or unit.
Overhead lights remain on or turn on unexpectedly. The retractable cord may not be fully retracted, or the activation mechanism is faulty.Ensure the cord is fully retracted until it clicks into place. If the issue persists, consider unplugging the bulbs if constant illumination is not desired, or contact support.
