Setup
1. Initial Winding
As an automatic watch, the LZ127 GRAF is powered by the motion of your wrist. However, for initial setup or if the watch has stopped due to lack of wear, it is recommended to manually wind it. To do this, gently rotate the crown (located on the right side of the watch case) clockwise approximately 20-30 times while it is in its normal, pushed-in position. This will build up a power reserve.
2. Setting the Time
- Pull the crown out to the furthest position (position 2).
- Rotate the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to set the hour and minute hands to the correct time.
- Push the crown back into its normal position (position 0) to start the watch.
3. Setting the Date
- Pull the crown out to the middle position (position 1).
- Rotate the crown to adjust the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can damage the movement. If the current time falls within this period, first set the time outside this range, then set the date, and finally reset the time.
- Push the crown back into its normal position (position 0).
Operating the Automatic Movement
The Zeppelin LZ127 GRAF features an automatic mechanical movement (Cal. 821A, 21 jewels). This movement is self-winding, meaning it gains power from the natural motion of your arm while wearing the watch. When fully wound, the watch has a power reserve that allows it to continue running for a period even when not worn. If the watch is not worn for an extended period, it will stop. Simply re-wind it manually or wear it for several hours to restart the movement.
The exhibition case back allows you to view the intricate mechanical movement of your watch.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the watch case and crystal regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and smudges. For the leather strap, avoid excessive moisture and harsh chemicals.
- Water Resistance: This watch is water-resistant up to 5 ATM (50 meters). This means it is suitable for everyday use and can withstand splashes, rain, and brief immersion in water. It is not suitable for swimming, diving, or showering, as water pressure and steam can compromise the seals. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in before any contact with water.
- Avoid Extreme Conditions: Protect your watch from extreme temperatures, strong magnetic fields, and severe shocks.
- Servicing: Mechanical watches benefit from periodic servicing (typically every 3-5 years) by a qualified watchmaker to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
