Introduction
The Instant Pot Duo is a versatile 7-in-1 electric multi-cooker designed to simplify your cooking experience. It combines the functions of a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, steamer, sauté pan, yogurt maker, and food warmer. With its intuitive controls and smart programs, preparing a wide variety of dishes becomes quick and convenient. The durable stainless steel inner pot ensures even heating and easy cleaning, making it an essential appliance for any kitchen.
Safety Information
Your Instant Pot Duo is equipped with over 10 safety features, including overheat protection and a safe-locking lid, to ensure secure operation. Always read and understand all safety warnings before use.
- Ensure the lid is properly sealed and the steam release handle is in the "Sealing" position before pressure cooking. The pot will audibly indicate when sealed.
- Do not attempt to open the lid until all pressure has been released. The float valve (small silver post) will drop down when it is safe to open.
- When performing a Quick Release (QR), keep hands, face, and all other body parts away from the steam release valve as hot steam will rapidly escape.
- Always add the minimum required liquid (at least 1/2 cup) to the inner pot for pressure cooking to ensure proper pressure build-up.
- Never fill the inner pot more than 2/3 full for general cooking, and no more than 1/2 full for foods that expand, such as rice, beans, or dried vegetables.
- For detailed safety guidelines, refer to the official Safety Information PDF.

Setup
- Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Retain packaging for storage or future transport.
- Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the inner pot, lid, and sealing ring with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry all parts. Wipe the exterior of the cooker base with a damp cloth.
- Placement: Place the Instant Pot on a stable, level surface away from heat sources and direct sunlight. Ensure adequate clearance around the unit for proper ventilation. Do not place under cabinets when using the steam release function.
- Water Test (Initial Run): It is recommended to perform a water test before cooking food. This familiarizes you with the pressure cooking process and ensures the unit is functioning correctly.
- Add 3 cups of water to the inner pot.
- Place the inner pot into the cooker base.
- Secure the lid, ensuring the steam release handle is in the "Sealing" position.
- Select the "Manual" or "Pressure Cook" program and set the time to 5 minutes on High Pressure.
- Once cooking is complete, allow for Natural Pressure Release (NPR) or perform a Quick Release (QR) by carefully turning the steam release handle to "Venting".
Operating Instructions
General Operation
- Add Ingredients: Place the inner pot into the cooker base. Add your ingredients and the required liquid. Ensure the liquid meets the minimum requirement (at least 1/2 cup for pressure cooking).
- Secure Lid: Place the lid on the cooker base and align the triangle mark on the lid with the triangle mark on the cooker base. Rotate the lid clockwise until it locks into place.
- Set Vent: Ensure the steam release handle is in the "Sealing" position for pressure cooking. For non-pressure cooking functions like Slow Cook or Sauté, it can be in "Venting" or "Sealing" as pressure will not build.
- Select Program: Choose your desired Smart Program (e.g., Soup/Broth, Meat/Stew, Bean/Chili, Poultry, Rice, Multigrain, Porridge, Steam, Slow Cook, Sauté, Yogurt, Keep Warm, Pressure Cook). Adjust cooking time and pressure level (if applicable) using the '+' and '-' buttons.
- Cooking Process: The display will show "On" as the pot preheats and builds pressure. Once target pressure is reached, the float valve will rise, and the timer will begin counting down.
- End of Cooking: After the cooking cycle completes, the Instant Pot will beep and automatically switch to the "Keep Warm" function (unless cancelled).
Pressure Release Methods
- Natural Pressure Release (NPR): This method allows the pressure to dissipate naturally over time. The float valve will drop on its own, indicating that all pressure has been released. This typically takes 10-40 minutes depending on the volume of food and liquid. NPR is often used for foods that benefit from continued cooking after the heat is off, such as meats and stews, or for foamy foods like beans and grains to prevent sputtering.
- Quick Release (QR): This method involves manually turning the steam release handle from "Sealing" to "Venting" to rapidly release steam. This is useful for delicate foods that can overcook quickly, such as vegetables or seafood. Always exercise caution as hot steam will escape forcefully. Do not use QR for large volumes of liquid or foamy foods, as it may cause liquid to spray from the valve.
Specific Functions
- Sauté: Use the "Sauté" function to brown meats or sauté vegetables directly in the inner pot before pressure cooking. Press "Sauté", then use "Less", "Normal", or "More" to adjust heat.
- Slow Cook: Place a glass lid (sold separately) or the pressure cooker lid (with vent open) on the pot. Select "Slow Cook" and adjust time and temperature (Less, Normal, More).
- Yogurt: Follow specific recipes for making yogurt. The "Yogurt" function provides the ideal temperature for fermentation.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Instant Pot Duo.
- Inner Pot: The stainless steel inner pot is dishwasher safe. For stubborn food residue, soak with warm soapy water or use a non-abrasive cleaner.
- Lid: The lid is dishwasher safe. Remove the sealing ring and anti-block shield before washing.
- Sealing Ring: The silicone sealing ring can absorb odors over time. Wash it thoroughly after each use. For strong odors, soak it in white vinegar or baking soda solution. Consider having a spare sealing ring for savory and sweet dishes.
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the cooker base with a damp cloth. Never immerse the cooker base in water or any other liquid.
- Condensation Collector: Empty and clean the condensation collector after each use.
