2. Safety Information
Please read all instructions carefully before installation and use. Keep this manual for future reference.
- Placement: Install smoke detectors in all bedrooms, children's rooms, hallways, and living areas. Avoid placing detectors in kitchens, bathrooms, or garages where steam, dust, or fumes might cause false alarms.
- Testing: Test the smoke detector weekly to ensure proper function.
- Battery: The Ei650 features a permanently installed 10-year lithium battery. Do not attempt to replace the battery.
- False Alarms: The device includes false alarm protection. If an alarm sounds, investigate the cause immediately. If it's a false alarm, use the mute function.
- Cleaning: Regularly clean the detector to prevent dust buildup from affecting performance.

Figure 2.1: Types of Detectors and Their Applications. Smoke detectors react to smoke and smoldering fires, suitable for bedrooms, children's rooms, hallways, and living rooms. Heat detectors react to temperatures above 58°C, ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, and garages. Carbon monoxide detectors react to high CO levels, for rooms where carbon-containing materials are burned.

5. Operating Instructions
The Ei650 smoke detector is designed for simple and reliable operation.
5.1 Normal Operation
Once installed and activated, the detector operates continuously. It does not feature a flashing LED during normal operation, making it unobtrusive, especially in sleeping areas.
5.2 Testing the Detector
It is crucial to test your smoke detector regularly (at least once a week) to ensure it is functioning correctly.
- Press and hold the large 'TEST & MUTE' button located on the center of the detector.
- The alarm will sound, indicating that the sensor, electronics, and alarm horn are working.
- Release the button when the alarm sounds.

5.3 Mute Function
In case of a false alarm (e.g., from cooking fumes), you can temporarily silence the alarm:
- Press the 'TEST & MUTE' button briefly.
- The alarm will silence for approximately 10 minutes.
- The detector will automatically reset after the mute period if the smoke has cleared. If smoke is still present, the alarm will reactivate.
6. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and effectiveness of your smoke detector.
- Regular Cleaning: Dust and debris can accumulate on the detector, potentially affecting its sensitivity. Gently vacuum the exterior of the detector with a soft brush attachment or wipe it with a damp cloth at least once a month. Do not use cleaning sprays or solvents.
- Battery Life: The integrated lithium battery has a lifespan of 10 years. The detector will emit a low battery warning signal (a chirp) when it reaches the end of its operational life. At this point, the entire unit must be replaced.
- Do Not Paint: Never paint the smoke detector. Paint can clog the smoke sensing chambers and prevent the unit from functioning correctly.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Ei650 smoke detector, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Detector chirps periodically | End of battery life (after 10 years) | Replace the entire smoke detector unit. The battery is not replaceable. |
| False alarms occur frequently | Detector is too close to cooking fumes, steam, or dust sources. | Relocate the detector to a more appropriate area. Clean the detector as per maintenance instructions. Use the mute function for temporary nuisances. |
| Alarm does not sound during test | Detector not properly activated or faulty. | Ensure the detector is correctly twisted onto its mounting plate. If still no alarm, the unit may be faulty and requires replacement. |
