Model: SFDP1-012-035-21 | Brand: SEAFLO
Introduction
This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your SEAFLO 21-Series Water Pressure Diaphragm Pump. Designed for reliable and efficient water flow, this 12V DC pump is ideal for RVs, boats, and various off-grid applications, delivering 1.2 GPM with a 35 PSI shut-off pressure. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and use to ensure proper function and safety.
Safety Information
- Always disconnect power before installing, servicing, or performing maintenance on the pump.
- Ensure proper ventilation around the pump to prevent overheating.
- Do not pump flammable liquids or use in explosive atmospheres.
- Verify that the power supply voltage matches the pump's specifications (12V DC).
- Use appropriate wire gauges and fuses for electrical connections to prevent damage and fire hazards.
- Protect the pump from freezing temperatures to prevent damage to internal components.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during installation and maintenance.
Product Components
The SEAFLO 21-Series pump is constructed with durable materials for long-lasting performance. Key components include:
- Housings: Made from Nylon / Polypropylene for robust protection.
- Diaphragm: Constructed from Santoprene for flexibility and chemical resistance.
- Valves/Seals: Made from EPDM / Viton for reliable sealing.
- Wire Connections: Standard 2-pin leads for easy electrical hookup.

Installation
Mounting
The pump can be mounted in any position. For optimal performance and noise reduction, mount the pump on a solid surface using the integrated rubber mounting feet. Ensure there is adequate space around the pump for ventilation and access for maintenance.

Plumbing Connections
- Connect 3/8" hose barb fittings to the pump's inlet and outlet ports.
- Ensure all connections are secure and leak-free. Use hose clamps where necessary.
- The pump is self-priming up to 4 feet, meaning it can draw water from a lower level. However, for best results and to extend pump life, it is recommended to install the pump as close as possible to the water source.
- Install a strainer/filter on the inlet side to prevent debris from entering the pump.
Electrical Connections
- Connect the pump to a 12V DC power source.
- Ensure correct polarity: Red wire to positive (+), Black wire to negative (-).
- Install an appropriate fuse (e.g., 5A for 12V systems) in the positive power line, as close to the power source as possible.
- Use marine-grade or automotive-grade wiring suitable for the current draw and environment.
Operating Instructions
Once installed, the SEAFLO 21-Series pump operates automatically based on demand.
- Initial Start-up: Open a faucet or outlet in your water system to allow air to escape. Turn on the pump. The pump will self-prime and begin to move water. Once water flows steadily and air is purged, close the faucet. The pump will build pressure and shut off automatically.
- Automatic Operation: The built-in pressure switch will automatically turn the pump on when water demand is detected (e.g., opening a faucet) and turn it off when the demand ceases and system pressure is reached.
- Adjustable Pressure Switch: The pressure switch is factory-set to 35 PSI. If adjustment is needed, locate the adjustment screw on the pressure switch housing. Turning the screw clockwise increases the shut-off pressure, and counter-clockwise decreases it. The pressure range is typically 17-80 PSI. Make small adjustments and test the system.
- Dry Run Capability: The pump is designed to run dry without damage, but prolonged dry running should be avoided.

Maintenance
- Regular Inspection: Periodically check all connections for leaks and ensure mounting screws are tight.
- Strainer Cleaning: If an inlet strainer is used, clean it regularly to prevent flow restriction and pump strain.
- Winterization: In freezing climates, drain all water from the pump and plumbing system to prevent ice damage. Running RV antifreeze through the system is recommended.
- Storage: If storing the pump for an extended period, ensure it is clean, dry, and protected from extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pump does not turn on | No power, blown fuse, loose wiring, faulty switch. | Check power supply, replace fuse, tighten connections, test switch. |
| Low flow or pressure | Clogged inlet strainer, air leak in suction line, low voltage, kinked hose, partially closed valve. | Clean strainer, check for air leaks, verify voltage, straighten hoses, open valves fully. |
| Pump runs continuously / Does not shut off | Air in system, leak in discharge line, faulty pressure switch, insufficient water supply. | Purge air by opening faucets, check for leaks, inspect/adjust pressure switch, ensure adequate water in tank. |
| Excessive noise or vibration | Loose mounting, air in system, debris in pump, worn diaphragm. | Tighten mounting, purge air, clean pump, contact support if diaphragm is suspected. |
