1. Product Overview
The AUTONICS TC4S-14R is a 4-digit temperature controller designed for precise temperature regulation in various industrial applications. It operates on 100VAC to 240VAC and supports J and K type thermocouples, offering reliable performance for maintaining desired temperature set points.
Figure 1: Front view of the AUTONICS TC4S-14R Temperature Controller. The display shows a 4-digit red LED readout, with indicators for SV (Set Value), °F (Fahrenheit), °C (Celsius), AL1 (Alarm 1), AL2 (Alarm 2), and OUT (Output). Control buttons include 'MODE', left arrow, down arrow, and up arrow.
2. Setup and Installation
Before installation, ensure the power supply is disconnected. Mount the controller in a suitable panel cutout, ensuring proper ventilation to prevent overheating. Connect the power supply, thermocouple, and output wiring according to the wiring diagram provided with the product. Verify all connections are secure before applying power.
- Power Supply: Connect 100VAC to 240VAC to the designated power terminals.
- Thermocouple Input: Connect the J or K type thermocouple to the input terminals, observing polarity.
- Output Wiring: Connect the control output to your heating or cooling element. Refer to the product's specific wiring diagram for relay or SSR output connections.
3. Operating Instructions
Upon powering on, the controller will display the current process value (PV) and set value (SV). Use the front panel buttons to navigate menus and adjust parameters.
- Setting the Set Value (SV): Press the MODE button to enter the SV setting mode. Use the Up and Down arrow buttons to adjust the desired temperature. Press MODE again to confirm and exit.
- Parameter Settings: For advanced settings such as alarm values (AL1, AL2), control mode (PID, ON/OFF), and input type, refer to the detailed parameter tree in the full manual. Access these by pressing and holding the MODE button for several seconds.
- Output Indicator: The OUT indicator illuminates when the control output is active.
4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of your temperature controller.
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the front panel with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Environmental Conditions: Ensure the operating environment remains within the specified temperature and humidity ranges (-10°C to 50°C). Avoid exposure to excessive dust, moisture, or corrosive gases.
- Connection Check: Periodically inspect wiring connections for looseness or corrosion.
5. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Display shows 'HHHH' or 'LLLL' | Thermocouple open circuit or short circuit, or input out of range. | Check thermocouple wiring and ensure it is correctly connected and not damaged. Verify temperature is within the controller's measurement range. |
| No output control | Incorrect wiring, output setting, or faulty heating/cooling element. | Verify output wiring. Check controller's output mode and set value. Test the heating/cooling element independently. |
| Temperature reading is inaccurate | Incorrect thermocouple type selected, sensor error, or external interference. | Ensure the correct thermocouple type (J or K) is selected in the controller's settings. Check thermocouple for damage. Avoid strong electromagnetic fields. |
