SOLO 475-B Backpack Sprayer Instruction Manual, 4 Gallon, Diaphragm - Bleach Resistant

Model: 475-B | Brand: SOLO

Introduction

The SOLO 475-B Backpack Sprayer is a 4-gallon capacity unit designed for efficient application of various liquids. It features a high-performance diaphragm pump system capable of producing up to 60 psi. The diaphragm is constructed from top-quality Tivilon material, offering excellent resistance to harsh chemicals, including bleach, and ensuring a long service life. This sprayer is suitable for applying disinfectants, bleach solutions, fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and formulations for tree, shrub, and plant protection. Its design allows for the passage of small abrasive particles without damaging the pump, making it compatible with water from various sources that may contain sediment. The diaphragm backpack is ideal for handling chemicals in wettable powder form, liquid formulations and bleach solutions.

Safety Information

Always read and understand the entire instruction manual before operating the sprayer. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling chemicals. Ensure proper ventilation and follow all chemical manufacturer's instructions for mixing, application, and disposal. Do not spray flammable liquids or use the sprayer near open flames. Keep out of reach of children and pets. After each use, thoroughly clean the sprayer according to the maintenance instructions to prevent chemical residue buildup.

  2. Connect Hose to Shut-Off Valve:

Attach one end of the 48-inch nylon-reinforced hose to the outlet on the pump assembly. Secure it tightly to prevent leaks.

  3. Connect Shut-Off Valve to Wand:

Connect the other end of the hose to the commercial shut-off valve. Then, attach the 28-inch unbreakable wand to the shut-off valve. Ensure all connections are secure.

Operating Instructions

  1. Filling the Tank:

Unscrew the large red lid from the top of the tank. Use the integrated strainer to prevent debris from entering the tank. Carefully pour your desired liquid solution into the 4-gallon tank. Do not overfill. Securely replace the lid, ensuring it is tightly sealed to prevent leaks.

  2. Pressurizing the Sprayer:

With the sprayer on your back, use the pump handle to build pressure within the tank. Pump the handle several times until you feel resistance, indicating sufficient pressure for spraying. The diaphragm pump is designed for consistent pressure output.

  3. Spraying:

Direct the wand towards the target area. Squeeze the trigger on the shut-off valve to begin spraying. For continuous spraying, engage the lock-on feature on the shut-off valve. Release the trigger or disengage the lock for intermittent spraying.

  4. Adjusting Spray Pattern:

If using the adjustable nozzle, twist the nozzle tip to change the spray pattern from a fine mist for delicate plants to a solid stream for targeted applications. For other nozzles, refer to the "Nozzle Selection" section for their specific spray characteristics.

Nozzle Selection

The SOLO 475-B includes four interchangeable nozzles to suit various spraying requirements:

To change a nozzle, simply unscrew the current nozzle from the wand and screw on the desired one. Ensure a tight fit to prevent leaks.

Maintenance

  1. Cleaning:

After each use, thoroughly rinse the tank, pump, hose, and wand with clean water. Pump clean water through the sprayer to flush out any chemical residue. For certain chemicals, a specific cleaning solution may be recommended by the chemical manufacturer.

  2. Storage:

Store the sprayer in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and freezing temperatures. Ensure the tank is empty and clean before storage. The built-in wand retainers help keep the wand organized.

  3. Diaphragm Inspection:

Periodically inspect the Tivilon diaphragm for any signs of wear or damage. Replace if necessary to maintain optimal performance and chemical resistance.

  4. Gasket and Seal Check:

Regularly check all gaskets and seals for wear. The sprayer comes with extra gaskets and Teflon tape to ensure leak-free connections.
