Introduction
This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the safe and effective use of your Battery Tender Plus 12V - 1.25 AMP Battery Charger and Maintainer. Please read all instructions carefully before operating the device.
The Battery Tender Plus is an advanced battery charger designed to fully charge a battery and then automatically switch to a float/maintenance mode. This prevents overcharging and ensures the battery is kept at optimal voltage levels for extended periods, prolonging battery life.
Important Safety Information
- Always wear eye protection when working with batteries.
- Ensure adequate ventilation when charging batteries.
- Keep sparks, flames, and smoking materials away from batteries.
- Do not charge frozen batteries.
- Connect the charger to the battery before plugging it into an AC outlet. Disconnect from AC power before disconnecting from the battery.
- Refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for specific battery charging instructions.

Setup
Connecting to the Battery
The Battery Tender Plus offers two methods for connecting to your battery: alligator clips or ring terminals. Choose the method most suitable for your application.
- Identify Battery Terminals: Locate the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals on your 12V battery. The positive terminal is usually larger and marked with a plus sign, while the negative terminal is marked with a minus sign.
- Choose Connection Method:
- Alligator Clips: Ideal for temporary connections. Connect the red (+) alligator clip to the positive battery terminal and the black (-) alligator clip to the negative battery terminal.
- Ring Terminals: Suitable for semi-permanent installations. Attach the red (+) ring terminal to the positive battery post and the black (-) ring terminal to the negative battery post. Ensure a secure connection.
- Connect Charger to Harness: Once the battery connection is secure, plug the quick-disconnect output cord from the Battery Tender Plus unit into the corresponding quick-disconnect harness connected to your battery.
- Plug into AC Power: Finally, plug the AC power cord of the Battery Tender Plus into a standard 120V AC electrical outlet.

Operating Instructions
Charging Process
The Battery Tender Plus features an automatic 4-step charging program to optimize battery power and prevent overcharging.
- Initialization: Upon connection to AC power and the battery, the charger will perform a diagnostic check to ensure proper connection and battery voltage.
- Bulk Charge: The charger delivers a constant current to bring the battery up to approximately 80% charge. During this phase, the "Charging" indicator light (amber) will be illuminated.
- Absorption Mode: As the battery approaches full charge, the charging current gradually decreases. The "Charging" indicator light (amber) remains illuminated.
- Float Mode (Maintenance): Once the battery is fully charged, the charger automatically switches to a float/maintenance mode. The "Fully Charged" indicator light (green) will illuminate, and the "Charging" light (amber) will turn off. In this mode, the charger maintains the battery at optimal voltage without overcharging, making it safe for long-term connection.

Indicator Lights
- Amber Light (Charging): Indicates the battery is actively being charged.
- Green Light (Fully Charged/Maintaining): Indicates the battery is fully charged and the unit is in maintenance mode.
- Alternating Amber/Green Lights: May indicate a battery voltage drop under load, prompting the charger to resume full output power.

Maintenance
- Cleaning: Disconnect the charger from AC power and the battery before cleaning. Wipe the exterior with a dry cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasive cleaners.
- Storage: Store the charger in a cool, dry place when not in use. Ensure cables are neatly coiled to prevent damage.
- Cable Inspection: Periodically inspect the AC cord, DC output cables, and connectors for any signs of damage, fraying, or corrosion. Replace damaged components immediately.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No lights illuminate when plugged in. | No AC power; faulty outlet; charger malfunction. | Check AC outlet with another device. Ensure charger is securely plugged in. If problem persists, contact support. |
| Only amber light illuminates, never turns green. | Battery is deeply discharged or faulty; incorrect connection. | Verify battery connections are correct and secure. Allow more time for charging. If battery does not charge after an extended period, it may be faulty and require replacement. |
| Green light flashes or alternates with amber. | Battery voltage drop under load; internal charger issue. | This is normal operation if the battery is under a slight load. If flashing occurs without load, ensure connections are tight. If problem persists, contact support. |
| Charger gets warm during operation. | Normal operation. | A slight warmth is normal during charging. Ensure adequate ventilation around the charger. |
