2. Safety Instructions
WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in fire, electric shock, or serious injury.
- Always ensure the work light is unplugged before performing any maintenance, bulb replacement, or when not in use.
- Do not expose the work light to rain or wet conditions. This product is designed for dry, indoor use or protected outdoor environments.
- Do not operate the work light with a damaged cord or plug. If damaged, have it repaired by a qualified electrician.
- Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges, and moving parts.
- Do not overload the single outlet. Refer to the specifications for maximum wattage.
- Use only incandescent bulbs of the specified wattage. Higher wattage bulbs can cause overheating and fire.
- Allow the bulb to cool completely before attempting to replace it. Incandescent bulbs become very hot during operation.
- Ensure the work light is securely mounted or placed on a stable surface to prevent tipping.
- This product is not a toy. Keep out of reach of children.
3. Package Contents
Verify that all items are present in the package:
- Bayco SL840 Incandescent Work Light with Retractable Reel
- Instruction Manual
Note: Bulb may or may not be pre-installed. Check packaging.
4. Setup
4.1 Bulb Installation (if not pre-installed)
- Ensure the work light is unplugged from any power source.
- Carefully unscrew the metal shield from the work light handle.
- Screw in a standard medium base (E26) incandescent bulb of the specified wattage (refer to Specifications section) into the socket. Do not overtighten.
- Reattach the metal shield securely.
4.2 Mounting
The Bayco SL840 is designed for hanging. Use the integrated hook at the top of the work light to hang it from a secure overhead structure, such as a rafter, pipe, or sturdy hook. Ensure the hanging point can support the weight of the light and its cord.
4.3 Power Connection
Plug the power cord of the retractable reel into a standard 120V AC grounded electrical outlet.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Extending the Cord
Grasp the work light handle and slowly pull the cord out from the reel. The reel will click at intervals, indicating that the cord is locking into place. Pull the cord slightly past the desired length and then allow it to retract slightly until it locks at the desired position.
5.2 Retracting the Cord
To retract the cord, pull the work light cord out gently until you hear the locking mechanism disengage (it will click once more). Then, slowly guide the cord back into the reel. Do not release the cord suddenly, as this can cause damage to the reel mechanism or the light.
5.3 Using the Work Light
Once plugged in and the cord is extended, the incandescent bulb will illuminate. There is no separate on/off switch on the light itself; it is controlled by plugging/unplugging the main power cord or by an external switch on the power source.
5.4 Using the Single Outlet
The retractable reel features a single integrated electrical outlet. This outlet can be used to power other small electrical devices (e.g., power tools, chargers) up to the maximum specified wattage. Ensure the total wattage of all connected devices (including the work light bulb) does not exceed the reel's maximum capacity.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Bulb Replacement
Refer to Section 4.1 for bulb installation steps. Always ensure the light is unplugged and the bulb is cool before replacing. Use only the recommended bulb type and wattage.
6.2 Cleaning
Unplug the work light before cleaning. Wipe the exterior surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the light is completely dry before plugging it back in.
6.3 Cord Inspection
Regularly inspect the power cord and the retractable cord for any signs of damage, cuts, fraying, or kinks. If damage is found, discontinue use immediately and have it repaired by a qualified professional.
6.4 Storage
When not in use, fully retract the cord into the reel. Store the work light in a dry, clean place, away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.
