3. Installation
This filter is designed for use in standard 10-inch filter housings. Professional installation is recommended. Always ensure the main water supply is turned off before beginning installation.
- Turn off Water Supply: Locate the main water shut-off valve for your home and turn it off.
- Depressurize System: Open a nearby faucet to relieve pressure in the water lines.
- Open Filter Housing: Use a filter wrench to unscrew and remove the existing filter housing sump.
- Remove Old Filter: Carefully remove the used filter cartridge and discard it.
- Clean Housing: Clean the inside of the filter housing sump with warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly. Inspect the O-ring for any damage and replace if necessary. Lubricate the O-ring with a silicone-based lubricant if needed.
- Insert New Filter: Place the new Hydronix SPC-25-1005 filter cartridge into the housing, ensuring it seats properly on the center standpipe. The filter can be installed in either direction.
- Reassemble Housing: Screw the filter housing sump back onto the cap, hand-tightening first, then using the filter wrench for a snug fit. Do not overtighten.
- Restore Water Supply: Slowly turn on the main water supply. Check for leaks around the filter housing.
- Flush System: Open a cold water faucet downstream from the filter for several minutes to flush out any air or fine particles.
4. Operation
Once installed, the Hydronix SPC-25-1005 filter will continuously remove sediment particles down to 5 microns from your whole house water supply. Monitor your water pressure; a noticeable drop in pressure indicates that the filter may be nearing the end of its service life or requires cleaning.
5. Maintenance
The SPC-25-1005 filter is designed to be washable and reusable, extending its lifespan. The frequency of cleaning depends on the quality of your incoming water and usage. It is recommended to inspect the filter every 3-6 months or when a noticeable drop in water pressure occurs.
Cleaning Procedure:
- Turn off Water Supply: Follow steps 1 and 2 from the Installation section to turn off water and depressurize the system.
- Remove Filter: Open the filter housing and remove the dirty filter cartridge.
- Rinse: Rinse the filter under running water to remove loose sediment.
- Brush Clean: Use a soft brush (e.g., a stiff nylon brush) to gently scrub the pleated surface of the filter, dislodging embedded particles. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Soak (Optional): For heavily soiled filters, you may soak the filter in a solution of water and a mild, non-chlorine bleach or filter cleaning solution for a few hours, then rinse thoroughly.
- Inspect: After cleaning, inspect the filter for any tears, damage, or signs of wear. If the pleats are damaged or the filter no longer effectively removes sediment, it should be replaced.
- Reinstall: Reinstall the cleaned filter following steps 5-9 from the Installation section.
While reusable, the filter's efficiency may decrease over time. Replace the filter when cleaning no longer restores adequate flow or filtration performance.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Reduced Water Flow | Filter is clogged with sediment. | Clean or replace the filter cartridge. |
| Water Still Contains Sediment | Filter is damaged or improperly installed. | Inspect filter for damage; ensure proper seating in housing. If damaged, replace. |
| Leaks Around Housing | O-ring is damaged, improperly seated, or housing is not tightened correctly. | Turn off water, depressurize, check O-ring for damage/seating, lubricate, and retighten housing. Replace O-ring if damaged. |
