Product Overview

This document provides instructions for the Redi-Remote replacement remote control, specifically designed to be compatible with various Sylvania units. This remote is a custom replacement and is not an original Sylvania remote control. It is engineered to perform all functions for the specific unit it is designed to control.

Compatible Sylvania models include: DVR90VG, NB121UD, WFR205, NB171UD, NB121UD, DVR90VF, CWR20V5, EWR20V5, NB197UD, EWR20VR5.

Remote Control Layout

The remote control is divided into two main sections: an upper fixed section with frequently used buttons and a lower section concealed by a sliding cover, revealing advanced controls.

Upper Section Buttons:

• PWR (Power): Red button at the top left, used to turn the device on or off.
• TV/VIDEO: Button at the top right, for switching between TV and video inputs.
• SLEEP: Button below PWR, for setting a sleep timer.
• DISP (Display): Button below TV/VIDEO, for displaying on-screen information.
• VOL +/- (Volume): Blue buttons for adjusting volume up (+) and down (-).
• CH +/- (Channel): Blue buttons for changing channels up (+) and down (-).
• MUTE: Button in the center of the volume/channel cluster, for muting audio.
• MENU: Button below VOL -, for accessing the device's main menu.
• RECALL: Button below DISP, for recalling the previous channel.
• Number Pad (0-9, 100): Buttons for direct channel entry or numerical input. The "100" button is for direct access to channel 100.
• ENT (Enter): Button at the bottom right of the number pad, for confirming selections.

Lower Section Buttons (Under Sliding Cover):

The lower half of the remote is covered by a sliding panel. Slide the panel down to reveal the following buttons:

• T-SET, TIMER PRG, OP/CL, DVD DISP, DVD CLEAR: Buttons for timer settings, program operations, and DVD display/clear functions.
• SETUP: For accessing setup menus.
• TOP MENU: For navigating to the top menu of a DVD.
• Directional Arrows (Up, Down, Left, Right): For navigation within menus.
• ENTER: Central button for confirming selections.
• DVD REC, REC/OTR: Buttons for DVD recording and one-touch recording.
• Playback Controls: Includes Rewind (◀◀), Play (►), Fast Forward (►►), Stop (■), and Pause (⏸).
• VCR CLEAR, VCR REC, VCR SPEED, REC MONI: Buttons specific to VCR functions, including clearing, recording, speed adjustment, and record monitoring.
• CM SKIP, SLOW, SEARCH: Buttons for commercial skip, slow motion playback, and search functions.

The model number "NB121UD" and "SYLVANIA" branding are visible on the white panel of the lower section.

Setup

Battery Installation

This remote control requires 4 AAA batteries for operation. Batteries are included with the remote.

1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the remote control.
2. Slide open the battery compartment cover.
3. Insert 4 AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

Initial Use

The Redi-Remote replacement remote control is designed for immediate use with compatible Sylvania units. No programming is required. Simply insert the batteries, and the remote should function with your device.

Operation

Basic Functions

• Power On/Off: Press the PWR button to turn your Sylvania unit on or off.
• Volume Adjustment: Use the VOL + and VOL - buttons to increase or decrease the audio volume.
• Channel Selection: Use the CH + and CH - buttons to navigate through channels. For direct channel entry, use the number pad (0-9, 100) followed by ENT.
• Mute Audio: Press the MUTE button to temporarily silence the audio. Press again to restore sound.
• Menu Navigation: Press the MENU button to access the device's main menu. Use the directional arrows (under the sliding cover) and ENTER to navigate and select options.

Advanced Functions (Sliding Cover)

To access advanced functions, gently slide the lower cover of the remote downwards. This reveals buttons for DVD/VCR operations, timer settings, and more.

• DVD/VCR Playback: Use the dedicated playback controls (Play, Pause, Stop, Rewind, Fast Forward) for media control.
• Recording: Utilize DVD REC or VCR REC buttons for recording content, depending on your unit's capabilities.
• Timer Programming: Use TIMER PRG and related buttons to set recording timers.
• Special Playback: Explore SLOW for slow-motion playback or CM SKIP to skip commercial breaks (if supported by your device).

Maintenance

• Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the remote's response becomes sluggish or stops working. Always replace all 4 AAA batteries at the same time with new ones. Do not mix old and new batteries, or different types of batteries.
• Cleaning: Clean the remote control periodically with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials, as they may damage the remote's surface or internal components.
• Storage: Store the remote in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity. If storing for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.

Troubleshooting

• Remote not responding:
  • Check if the batteries are inserted correctly with the correct polarity.
  • Replace the batteries with fresh ones.
  • Ensure there are no obstructions between the remote and the Sylvania unit's infrared sensor.
  • Confirm you are pointing the remote directly at the unit.
• Specific buttons not working:
  • Clean the remote's surface, especially around the non-working buttons, to remove any dirt or debris.
  • Ensure the sliding cover is fully open if you are trying to access buttons in the lower section.
  • Verify that the function you are trying to use is supported by your specific Sylvania model.
• Remote does not control TV functions:
  • Redi-Remotes are designed to control the specific unit they are sold for (e.g., Sylvania DVR/VCR). They cannot be programmed to control auxiliary devices like televisions.
