Casio Pro Trek PRG-550-1A1 Tough Solar Watch User Manual
Model: PRG-550-1A1
Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the operation and maintenance of your Casio Pro Trek PRG-550-1A1 Tough Solar watch. Please read this manual carefully to ensure proper use and to fully utilize its advanced features, including digital compass, altimeter, barometer, and thermometer functions.
1. Initial Setup
1.1 Charging the Watch (Tough Solar)
Your watch is equipped with a solar charging system. Before initial use, expose the watch face to bright light for several hours to ensure it is sufficiently charged. Avoid covering the watch face during charging. A low battery indicator may appear if the charge is insufficient.

1.2 Setting the Home City and Time

- Use the MODE and LIGHT buttons to select your desired Home City code.
- Press ADJUST to confirm the city.
- Use the MODE button to cycle through other settings like DST (Daylight Saving Time), 12/24-hour format, seconds, hour, minute, year, month, and day. Adjust each setting using the LIGHT and MODE buttons.
- Press ADJUST to exit the setting mode.
2. Operating Modes
The watch features multiple modes accessible via the MODE button and dedicated sensor buttons.
2.1 Timekeeping Mode
This is the default mode, displaying the current time, day, and date. The analog hands show the current time, while the digital display can show various information depending on settings.
2.2 Digital Compass Mode (COMP Button)
Press the COMP button to enter Compass Mode. The watch will display the current bearing (north, south, east, west) and a graphic representation of the direction. For accurate readings, ensure the watch is held level and away from strong magnetic fields.

2.3 Barometer/Thermometer Mode (BARO Button)
Press the BARO button to display atmospheric pressure and temperature. Temperature readings are most accurate when the watch is removed from the wrist for at least 20-30 minutes to avoid body heat interference.
2.4 Altimeter Mode (ALTI Button)
Press the ALTI button to measure altitude. The altimeter uses a pressure sensor, so readings can be affected by changes in atmospheric pressure due to weather. For best accuracy, calibrate the altimeter frequently using a known altitude reference.
2.5 Other Modes (via MODE Button)
- World Time: Displays the current time in various major cities around the world.
- Stopwatch: Measures elapsed time, split times, and two finishes.
- Timer: A countdown timer function.
- Alarm: Set daily alarms.
3. Maintenance
3.1 Charging
To maintain optimal performance, ensure the watch is regularly exposed to light for charging. Prolonged storage in darkness can deplete the battery and affect functionality. Refer to the power indicator on the digital display to monitor charge level.
3.2 Water Resistance
The PRG-550-1A1 is water resistant to 10 ATM (100 meters). This means it is suitable for swimming and snorkeling. Do not operate buttons while the watch is submerged in water. Avoid exposing the watch to hot water or steam, as this can compromise the seals.
3.3 Cleaning
Wipe the watch with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a soft cloth dampened with water and a mild neutral detergent, then wipe dry. Avoid using volatile agents like thinner or benzine, as they may damage the resin components.

4. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Watch is not charging or display is blank. | Insufficient light exposure. | Expose the watch face to bright light for an extended period. Ensure the solar panel is not obstructed. |
| Time is incorrect. | Incorrect Home City setting or manual time adjustment error. | Re-set your Home City and manually adjust the time as described in Section 1.2. |
| Sensor readings (compass, altimeter, barometer) are inaccurate. | Interference from magnetic fields, rapid weather changes, or need for calibration. | Move away from electronic devices or metal objects. Calibrate the sensor according to the specific mode's instructions. For altimeter, calibrate with a known altitude. |
| Buttons are unresponsive. | Watch may be in a locked state or battery is extremely low. | Ensure the watch is adequately charged. If submerged, do not press buttons. If problem persists, perform a full reset (refer to Casio support for specific reset procedures). |
