2.2 Preparing the Meter and Test Strip

  1. Wash your hands with soap and warm water, then dry them thoroughly.
  2. Remove one test strip from the vial. Immediately close the vial cap tightly to protect the remaining strips from moisture.
  3. Insert the test strip into the meter with the flat end (containing the contact bars) facing the meter. Ensure the CareSens N logo on the strip is facing upwards. Do not insert the pointy end first, as this can damage the meter.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Test Strip Storage and Handling

  • Store test strips in their original vial with the cap tightly closed.
  • Store between 1-30°C (34-86°F) and 20-80% Relative Humidity.
  • Do not freeze the test strips.
  • Dispose of test strips past the expiration date immediately.
  • Discard used test strips safely in disposable containers.

4.2 Meter Care

  • Keep the meter clean and dry. Wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth.
  • Avoid getting liquids inside the meter.
  • Store the meter in its carrying case when not in use to protect it from dust and damage.

5. Troubleshooting: Control Solution Testing

Control solution testing is recommended when you suspect your meter or test strips are not working correctly, or if your blood glucose results are unexpectedly high or low.

5.1 Performing a Control Solution Test

  1. Shake the control solution vial vigorously before use to ensure proper mixing.
  2. Apply a drop of control solution onto the tip of the control solution vial cap.
  3. Insert a new test strip into the meter. When the blood drop symbol appears, touch the tip of the test strip to the control solution drop.
  4. After 5 seconds, the result will be displayed.
  5. Compare the result with the control solution range printed on the test strip vial label. If the result falls within the specified range, your meter and strips are working correctly.
  6. To mark the result as a control solution test (and prevent it from affecting your average blood glucose readings), press and hold the down arrow button on the meter for 3 seconds immediately after the result is displayed. A "CHECK" mark will appear on the screen.
  7. Wipe any excess control solution from the cap and close the vial tightly.

If the control solution result falls outside the specified range, repeat the test. If the result is still out of range, do not use the meter or test strips and contact customer service or your healthcare provider.
