2. Connecting the Unit

Connect the Funai ZV427FX4 to your television and other audio/video equipment using the appropriate cables.

  • HDMI Connection (Recommended for best quality): Connect an HDMI cable from the HDMI OUT port on the recorder to an HDMI IN port on your TV. This connection supports 1080p upconversion for improved picture quality.
  • Analog Audio/Video Connection: For older TVs or alternative connections, use composite video (yellow) and stereo audio (red/white) cables.
  • Power Connection: Plug the power cord into the AC IN jack on the back of the unit, then into a standard electrical outlet.

3. Remote Control Batteries

Insert the two AAA batteries into the remote control, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the battery compartment.

Operating Instructions

1. Basic Playback (VHS and DVD)

  • Power On: Press the POWER button on the unit or remote control.
  • Select Source: Use the VCR/DVD button on the remote to switch between VCR and DVD modes.
  • For VHS Playback: Insert a VHS tape into the VCR slot. The unit will typically begin playback automatically or you can press PLAY.
  • For DVD Playback: Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the DVD tray, place a DVD disc on the tray, and press OPEN/CLOSE again to close it. Playback should begin automatically or press PLAY.
  • Controls: Use the PLAY, PAUSE, STOP, REWIND, FAST FORWARD, and SKIP buttons on the remote for media control.

2. Archiving Home Movies (VHS to DVD)

One of the key features of this unit is the ability to transfer your personal VHS recordings to DVD. Note: This unit is designed for archiving home movies and will not copy prerecorded Hollywood Studio movies due to copyright protection.

  1. Insert the VHS tape you wish to copy into the VCR slot.
  2. Insert a blank, recordable DVD (DVD-R or DVD-RW recommended) into the DVD tray.
  3. Ensure the unit is in VCR mode.
  4. Press the DUBBING button on the front panel or remote control. The unit will begin playing the VHS tape and simultaneously recording to the DVD.
  5. To stop recording, press the STOP button.
  6. After recording, it is recommended to finalize the DVD if you plan to play it on other DVD players. Refer to the on-screen menu for the finalization option.

3. Recording from External Sources (Line-in Recording)

You can record content from external sources such as a cable or satellite box using the line-in recording feature.

  1. Connect the audio/video output of your external source (e.g., cable box) to the L1 or L2 (Line In) input jacks on the Funai ZV427FX4.
  2. Insert a blank, recordable DVD into the DVD tray.
  3. Select the correct input source (L1 or L2) on the recorder.
  4. Begin playback on your external source.
  5. Press the REC button on the remote or front panel to start recording.
  6. Press STOP to end the recording.
  7. Finalize the DVD if needed.
