2. Package Contents
Verify that all items are present in the package:
- One (1) United Pacific Heavy-Duty All-Metal Chrome Plated Turn Signal Switch
- Wiring Diagram
- Inline Fuse
3. Installation Instructions
This turn signal switch is designed for 12-volt systems. For 6-volt systems, the indicator bulb must be changed to a #51 bulb (not included, available from specialty bulb suppliers).
3.1 Mounting
- Select a suitable position on the steering column that does not obstruct driving controls or visibility.
- Use the adjustable clamp provided to secure the turn signal switch to the steering column. Ensure the clamp is tightened sufficiently to prevent movement, but do not overtighten. No drilling or cutting of the steering column is required.
3.2 Wiring
Refer to the included wiring diagram for detailed connections. The switch features a 7-wire system. Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated. The inline fuse should be installed as indicated in the wiring diagram to protect the circuit.
Important: Incorrect wiring can damage the switch or vehicle electrical system. If you are unsure about any wiring steps, consult a qualified automotive technician.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Turn Signals
- To activate the left turn signal, push the lever downward. The green indicator light on the switch will flash.
- To activate the right turn signal, push the lever upward. The green indicator light on the switch will flash.
- To cancel the turn signal, return the lever to the center position.
4.2 Emergency Hazard Function
- To activate the 4-way emergency hazard lights, pull the red knob on the end of the lever outward. The red indicator light on the switch will flash, and all four vehicle turn signals will flash simultaneously.
- To deactivate the emergency hazard lights, push the red knob inward, or move the turn signal lever in either direction.
5. Maintenance
The United Pacific 5007R turn signal switch is constructed from durable all-metal components and chrome plated for longevity. Regular maintenance is minimal:
- Keep the switch clean and free from dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
- Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, which may damage the chrome finish.
- Periodically check the mounting clamp for tightness to ensure the switch remains securely in place.
6. Troubleshooting
- Turn Signals Not Flashing:
- Check the inline fuse for continuity. Replace if blown.
- Verify all wiring connections are secure and correct according to the diagram.
- Ensure the vehicle's flasher relay is compatible and functioning correctly. Some systems may require a specific type of flasher relay (e.g., a 3-terminal flasher with a pilot wire for the indicator light).
- For 6-volt systems, confirm the indicator bulb has been changed to a #51 bulb.
- Indicator Light on Switch Not Working:
- Check the bulb within the switch.
- Ensure the wiring to the indicator light is correctly connected to a compatible flasher relay that provides power to the indicator circuit.
- Switch Feels Loose on Steering Column:
- Tighten the adjustable steering column clamp. If the clamp is damaged or insufficient, a replacement hose clamp may be used.
