The matrix unit features four HDMI input ports (Input 1-4) and two HDMI output ports (Output 1-2). It also includes a DC 5V power input, IR RX ports for connecting IR receiver extensions, and an ISP port for service. A switch for EDID settings (Default, 1, 2, 3) is also present.

Setup Instructions

  1. Power Off All Devices: Before making any connections, ensure all HDMI source devices, displays, and the HDMI matrix are powered off.
  2. Connect HDMI Sources: Connect your HDMI source devices (e.g., Blu-Ray player, game console) to the HDMI Input ports (Input 1, Input 2, Input 3, Input 4) on the Sewell Spider matrix using high-quality HDMI cables.
  3. Connect HDMI Displays: Connect your HDMI displays (e.g., HDTV, projector) to the HDMI Output ports (Output 1, Output 2) on the matrix using high-quality HDMI cables.
  4. Connect IR Receiver/Emitters (Optional):
    • If using the IR remote control, connect the IR Receiver Extension Cable to the "IR RX" port on the matrix. Position the IR receiver in a location where it can receive signals from the remote control.
    • To control source devices remotely, connect IR Emitter Extension Cables to the corresponding IR Emitter ports (if available and needed for your specific setup) and place the emitter head over the IR sensor of the source device.
  5. Connect Power: Plug the provided 5V DC power adapter into the "DC/5V" port on the matrix, then plug the adapter into a power outlet.
  6. Power On Devices: Power on your HDMI displays first, then your HDMI source devices, and finally the Sewell Spider HDMI Matrix.
  7. Select EDID Mode: Use the EDID switch on the unit to select the appropriate EDID mode for your setup. "Default" is often suitable for most configurations. If you encounter display issues, try other modes.

Operating Instructions

The Sewell Spider 4x2 HDMI Matrix can be operated using the front panel buttons or the included IR remote control.

Using the Front Panel Buttons:

  • Each output (Output 1, Output 2) has dedicated input selection buttons.
  • Press the "Input 1", "Input 2", "Input 3", or "Input 4" button under "Output 1" to select which source is displayed on Output 1.
  • Similarly, press the "Input 1", "Input 2", "Input 3", or "Input 4" button under "Output 2" to select which source is displayed on Output 2.

Using the IR Remote Control:

Point the remote control towards the IR receiver on the matrix unit (or the connected IR receiver extension cable).

  • Output 1 Selection: Use the buttons labeled "1", "2", "3", "4" in the "Output 1" section of the remote to select the corresponding HDMI input for Output 1.
  • Output 2 Selection: Use the buttons labeled "1", "2", "3", "4" in the "Output 2" section of the remote to select the corresponding HDMI input for Output 2.
  • The remote control also allows for IR pass-through to control your source devices if IR emitters are properly connected.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the surface of the unit. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the unit has adequate ventilation. Do not block any ventilation openings.
  • Storage: Store the unit in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Cable Connections: Periodically check all HDMI and power cable connections to ensure they are secure.

Troubleshooting

No picture or distorted picture on display:
  • Ensure all HDMI cables are securely connected to both the matrix and the source/display devices.
  • Try using different HDMI cables.
  • Verify that the correct input source is selected for the respective output on the matrix.
  • Check the power connection to the matrix.
  • Try cycling the power of all connected devices (matrix, sources, displays).
  • Adjust the EDID switch on the matrix to a different setting.
  • Ensure the display is set to the correct HDMI input.
Remote control not working:
  • Ensure there are fresh batteries in the remote control.
  • Verify that the IR receiver extension cable is securely plugged into the "IR RX" port on the matrix.
  • Ensure there are no obstructions between the remote control and the IR receiver.
  • Confirm the IR receiver is positioned correctly to receive signals.
No audio or poor audio quality:
  • Check audio settings on your source device and display.
  • Ensure HDMI cables are fully seated.
  • Try a different HDMI cable.
