1. Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the installation, configuration, and operation of the Fortinet FortiWiFi-60D Security Appliance Firewall. The FortiWiFi-60D is an enterprise-grade network appliance designed to provide comprehensive security and wireless connectivity for small to medium-sized networks. It integrates firewall, VPN, wireless access point, and other security features into a single device.

2. Safety Information

• Electrical Safety: Ensure the device is connected to a grounded power outlet. Use only the power adapter supplied with the unit. Do not expose the device to water or excessive humidity.
• Environmental Conditions: Operate the device within the specified temperature and humidity ranges. Avoid placing the device near heat sources or in direct sunlight. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.
• Proper Handling: Do not drop or subject the device to strong impacts. Do not attempt to open the device casing; doing so will void the warranty.

4. Hardware Overview

4.1 Front Panel

5. Setup

5.1 Physical Installation

1. Placement: Place the FortiWiFi-60D on a stable, flat surface or mount it in a rack (if applicable) in a well-ventilated area. Ensure sufficient space for airflow.
2. Power Connection: Connect the power adapter to the device's power input port and then plug it into a grounded electrical outlet. The Power LED should illuminate.

5.2 Network Connection

1. WAN Connection: Connect an Ethernet cable from your internet modem or upstream router to the WAN port on the FortiWiFi-60D.
2. LAN Connection: Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports on the FortiWiFi-60D to a computer or a network switch.

5.3 Initial Access

1. Connect PC: Ensure your computer is connected to a LAN port of the FortiWiFi-60D. Configure your computer's network adapter to obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP).
2. Access Web-based Manager: Open a web browser and navigate to the default IP address of the FortiWiFi-60D, typically 192.168.1.99.
3. Login: Enter the default username (admin) and leave the password field blank (or use the password provided on the device label). You will be prompted to create a new password upon first login.

After initial setup, you can configure the FortiWiFi-60D through its web-based management interface.

6.1 Accessing the FortiGate Web-based Manager

From a computer connected to the FortiWiFi-60D's LAN, open a web browser and enter the device's IP address (e.g., https://192.168.1.99). Log in with your credentials.

6.2 Basic Network Configuration

• WAN Settings: Configure your internet connection type (DHCP, Static IP, PPPoE) under Network > Interfaces > WAN.
• LAN Settings: Review or modify the LAN interface settings, including the IP address and DHCP server configuration, under Network > Interfaces > Internal.

6.3 Wireless Network Configuration (802.11ac)

The FortiWiFi-60D supports 802.11ac for high-speed wireless connectivity.

1. Navigate to WiFi & Switch Controller > SSID.
2. Create a new SSID or edit an existing one.
3. Configure the SSID Name (network name), Security Mode (e.g., WPA2-Personal), and set a strong Pre-shared Key (password).
4. WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup): If desired, enable WPS for easy connection of compatible devices. This feature is typically found within the SSID settings.

6.4 Firewall Policies

Firewall policies control traffic flow between network interfaces.

1. Go to Policy & Objects > Firewall Policy.
2. Create policies to allow or deny traffic based on source, destination, service, and action. For basic internet access, ensure a policy exists to allow traffic from your internal network to the WAN interface.

6.5 Monitoring System Status

The Dashboard provides an overview of the system status, network activity, and security events. Detailed logs and reports are available under Log & Report.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Firmware Updates

Regularly update the device firmware to ensure optimal performance, security, and access to new features. Download firmware from the Fortinet support portal.

1. Go to System > Firmware.
2. Upload the downloaded firmware file and follow the on-screen instructions. The device will reboot during the update process.

7.2 Configuration Backup and Restore

It is recommended to regularly back up your device configuration.

• Backup: Navigate to System > Configuration > Backup to save the current configuration to your computer.
• Restore: Use System > Configuration > Restore to upload a previously saved configuration file.

7.3 Factory Reset Procedure

To restore the device to its original factory settings:

• Via Web-based Manager: Go to System > Configuration > Reset Configuration.
• Via Reset Button: With the device powered on, use a paperclip to press and hold the Reset button on the rear panel for approximately 10 seconds until the Status LED changes. Release the button and allow the device to reboot.

8. Troubleshooting

• No Power: Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to both the device and a working electrical outlet. Check the Power LED.
• No Internet Access: Verify that the WAN cable is connected correctly and the WAN LED is active. Check your ISP's modem status. Review firewall policies to ensure internet traffic is allowed.
• Wi-Fi Connectivity Issues: Ensure the Wi-Fi LED is active. Check your SSID settings (name, password, security mode). Try restarting the device.
• Cannot Access Web-based Manager: Verify your computer's IP address is in the same subnet as the FortiWiFi-60D (e.g., 192.168.1.x). Clear your browser's cache or try a different browser.
