3. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the drain's performance. If you are unsure about any step, it is recommended to consult a qualified plumber.

Required Tools:

  • Adjustable Wrench or Basin Wrench
  • Plumber's Putty or Silicone Sealant
  • Clean Cloth

Installation Steps:

  1. Prepare the Sink Opening: Ensure the drain opening in the sink is clean and free of debris.
  2. Apply Sealant to Top Flange: Apply a bead of plumber's putty or silicone sealant around the underside of the drain's top flange (the visible part that sits in the sink).
  3. Insert Drain into Sink: From the top of the sink, insert the drain body through the sink opening. Press down firmly to create a seal with the putty/sealant.
  4. Install Gaskets and Nut (from below): From underneath the sink, slide the rubber gasket(s) and friction washer onto the threaded portion of the drain body. Then, thread the mounting nut onto the drain body.
  5. Tighten the Nut: Hand-tighten the mounting nut, then use an adjustable wrench to tighten it further. Do not overtighten, as this can crack the sink or damage the drain. Ensure the drain is centered and the sealant is compressed evenly.
  6. Connect to P-Trap: Connect the tailpiece of the drain to your existing P-trap assembly. Ensure all connections are tight and properly sealed to prevent leaks.
  7. Test for Leaks: Fill the sink with water and then drain it, carefully checking all connections for any signs of leakage. Tighten connections as necessary.

4. Operating Instructions

The Jaclo 830-SB drain features a simple finger touch (or push-pop) mechanism for operation.

  • To Close the Drain: Gently press down on the center of the drain stopper. It will click into the closed position, sealing the sink.
  • To Open the Drain: Gently press down on the center of the drain stopper again. It will click into the open position, allowing water to drain.

5. Maintenance

Regular cleaning and maintenance will help preserve the finish and functionality of your drain.

  • Cleaning the Finish: Clean the Satin Brass finish regularly with a soft, damp cloth. For stubborn spots, use a mild soap solution and rinse thoroughly. Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, or scouring pads, as these can damage the finish.
  • Cleaning the Drain Mechanism: Periodically remove the stopper by unscrewing it (if applicable) or pulling it out firmly. Clean any hair or debris that may have accumulated around the stopper and inside the drain body. Rinse with water and reinsert.
  • Avoid Chemical Drain Cleaners: Do not use harsh chemical drain cleaners, as they can corrode the drain's internal components and damage the finish.
