Using AA Batteries:

  1. Ensure the camera is powered off.

Operating the Battery Grip

Once attached, the Meike MK-D300 Battery Grip provides additional controls for comfortable vertical shooting and extended battery life.

  • Vertical Shutter Release: The grip features a dedicated shutter release button for vertical orientation. This allows for a more natural and stable grip when shooting portraits or other vertical compositions. Press halfway to focus, fully to release the shutter.
  • AF-ON Button: An AF-ON button is integrated into the grip, mirroring the camera's function for autofocus activation.
  • Front and Rear Control Dials: The grip includes front and rear control dials, providing convenient access to camera settings (e.g., aperture, shutter speed) while holding the camera vertically.
  • Lock Function: A lock switch is present on the grip to prevent accidental activation of the vertical controls. Ensure this switch is in the "ON" position for controls to function.
  • Extended Shooting Time: With two EN-EL3e batteries or six AA batteries, the grip significantly extends the camera's operational time, reducing the need for frequent battery changes during prolonged shoots.
  • Improved Ergonomics: The added weight and size of the grip can improve camera balance, especially with larger lenses, and provide a more secure hold.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the battery grip. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Contacts: Periodically inspect the electrical contacts on both the grip and your camera for dust or debris. Clean gently with a dry cotton swab if necessary.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, remove batteries from the grip and store the grip in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery Care: Follow the manufacturer's guidelines for charging and storing your EN-EL3e and AA batteries.

Troubleshooting

  • Grip not powering camera:
    • Ensure batteries are fully charged and inserted with correct polarity.
    • Check that the grip is securely attached to the camera and the attachment wheel is tightened.
    • Verify that the camera's internal battery compartment cover has been removed.
    • Clean the electrical contacts on both the grip and the camera.
  • Vertical controls not responding:
    • Check the lock switch on the grip; ensure it is in the "ON" or unlocked position.
    • Ensure the grip is properly connected and recognized by the camera.
  • Camera displays battery error:
    • Remove and reinsert batteries.
    • Try using different, fully charged batteries.
    • Ensure you are using compatible battery types (EN-EL3e or specified AA types).
