  3. Insert the CR2032 battery with the positive (+) side facing up.
  4. Securely close the battery compartment cover.

3.2 HOBOware Software Installation

The HOBOware software is essential for configuring the data logger, downloading data, and performing analysis. It is compatible with Windows (8, 7, Vista, XP) and Mac (OS X 10.6, 10.7, 10.8) operating systems.

  1. Access the HOBOware software download link provided with your data logger or visit the official Onset website.
  2. Download the appropriate version of HOBOware for your operating system.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the software installation.

3.3 Connecting to Computer

To connect the data logger to your computer:

  1. Connect the mini-B end of the included USB cable to the USB port on the HOBO UX100-003 data logger.
  2. Connect the standard Type A end of the USB cable to an available USB port on your computer.
  3. Once connected, the HOBOware software should automatically detect the data logger.

4. Operating the Data Logger

4.1 Configuring Logging Parameters

Before starting a new logging session, you must configure the data logger using HOBOware software:

  1. Launch the HOBOware software on your computer.
  2. With the data logger connected, select the option to configure or launch a new logger.
  3. Set the desired sampling rate (logging interval) from 1 second to 18 hours.
  4. Configure alarm thresholds for temperature and humidity if required.
  5. Choose the logging mode (e.g., fixed interval, burst logging).
  6. Start the logging session from the software. The data logger will begin recording data according to your settings.

4.2 LCD Display Information

The LCD display provides real-time information:

  • Current Readings: Displays the most recent temperature and relative humidity values.
  • Recording Mode: Indicates if the logger is actively recording data.
  • Battery Level: Shows the remaining battery life.
  • Alarm Status: Notifies if configured temperature or humidity thresholds have been exceeded.

4.3 Data Logging Capacity

The HOBO UX100-003 can store up to 84,650 measurements before requiring data download. The actual logging duration depends on the configured sampling rate.

4.4 Downloading and Analyzing Data

To retrieve and analyze recorded data:

  1. Connect the data logger to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. Open the HOBOware software.
  3. Select the option to download data from the logger.
  4. Once downloaded, the data can be viewed in tabular format, graphed, and exported to other applications (e.g., spreadsheets) for further analysis.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Battery Replacement

The typical battery life is approximately one year when logging at a 1-minute sampling rate. Replace the battery when the low battery indicator appears on the LCD or in the HOBOware software.

  • Use a fresh CR2032 3-Volt Lithium Coin Cell Battery for replacement.
  • Follow the battery installation steps outlined in Section 3.1.
  • Dispose of old batteries according to local regulations.

5.2 Cleaning

To ensure optimal performance and longevity:

  • Wipe the exterior of the data logger with a soft, damp cloth.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Ensure the sensor grille is free from dust and debris. Do not insert objects into the grille.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your HOBO UX100-003 data logger, consider the following:

  • Logger not detected by HOBOware:
    • Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the logger and the computer.
    • Try a different USB port on your computer.
    • Verify that HOBOware software is correctly installed and up to date.
    • Check if the data logger's battery has sufficient charge.
  • Inaccurate readings:
    • Ensure the data logger is placed in an environment representative of the area you wish to monitor, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, or strong air currents.
    • Check for any obstructions or debris on the sensor grille.
    • Consider if the logger has been exposed to extreme conditions outside its operating range.
  • Logger not starting or stopping logging:
    • Confirm that the logging parameters were correctly configured and launched in HOBOware.
    • Check the battery level; low battery can prevent logging.
    • The logger may have reached its maximum logging capacity (84,650 measurements). Download data to clear memory.
