3. Operating Instructions
Once the lancet is loaded and the depth is set, you are ready to obtain a blood sample:
- Wash and Dry Hands: Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water, then dry them completely before testing.
- Prime the Device: Push the plunger of the lancing device until the release button turns yellow. This indicates the device is primed and ready to use.
- Obtain Blood Sample: Place the lancing device firmly against the side of your fingertip. Press the yellow release button to activate the lancet.
- Collect Blood: Gently squeeze your finger to form a round drop of blood. Avoid excessive squeezing, which can dilute the sample.
- Apply to Test Strip: Touch the blood drop to the absorbent tip of your blood glucose test strip.
Important: For hygiene and to ensure accurate results, please make sure you change your lancet for every blood sample.

4. Maintenance and Disposal
Accu-Chek Softclix Lancets are single-use, sterile devices. Proper maintenance primarily involves correct disposal after each use to prevent contamination and injury.
- Disposal: After obtaining a blood sample, carefully remove the used lancet from the lancing device. Immediately dispose of the used lancet in an approved sharps container. Do not recap or reuse lancets.
- Storage: Store unused lancets in their original packaging in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Keep them out of reach of children.
- Cleaning: The lancets themselves do not require cleaning as they are single-use. For the lancing device, refer to its specific user manual for cleaning instructions.
5. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues while using your Accu-Chek Softclix Lancets with the lancing device, consider the following common solutions:
- Insufficient Blood Sample: If you are not getting enough blood, try increasing the lancing depth setting on your Accu-Chek Softclix lancing device. Different skin types require different depths. Ensure the device is held firmly against the skin.
- Pain or Discomfort: If lancing is painful, try reducing the lancing depth setting. The Softclix lancing device has 11 settings to find the most comfortable depth for you. Also, ensure you are lancing on the side of your fingertip, not the pad.
- Lancet Not Firing: Ensure the lancing device is properly primed (the yellow indicator should be visible). Check that the lancet is fully inserted and clicked into place.
- Lancet Appears Bent or Damaged: Do not use a damaged lancet. Dispose of it safely and use a new, sterile lancet.
- Device Malfunction: If the lancing device itself is not functioning correctly, refer to the Accu-Chek Softclix lancing device user manual or contact Accu-Chek customer support.
