Model: CL030033

1. Product Overview

The Marathon Atomic Wall Clock is a self-setting and self-adjusting timepiece designed for accuracy and ease of use. It automatically synchronizes with the NIST's Colorado Atomic Clock via radio frequencies, ensuring precise timekeeping in North America. Its large, easy-to-read display makes it suitable for various environments, including homes, offices, schools, and churches. The clock offers multiple display modes, including AM/PM or 24-hour format, date, and indoor temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit. It also supports eight North American time zones and multiple language options.

2. Setup Instructions

2.1. Battery Installation

The Marathon Atomic Wall Clock requires two AA batteries for operation. These are typically included with your purchase.

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the clock.
  2. Open the battery compartment cover.
  3. Insert two AA batteries, ensuring the correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

2.2. Initial Synchronization

Upon battery installation, the clock will automatically begin searching for the NIST radio signal to synchronize the time. This process may take a few minutes to several hours, depending on your location and signal strength. For best reception, place the clock near a window and away from electronic devices that may cause interference.

  • The signal reception indicator (often a tower icon or wave symbol) on the display will show the signal strength.
  • Once synchronized, the clock will display the correct time, date, and day for your selected time zone.

2.3. Mounting Options

The Marathon Atomic Wall Clock can be either wall-mounted or placed on a flat surface using its built-in fold-out stand.

  • Wall Mounting: Use a screw (not included) and the keyhole slot on the back of the clock to hang it securely on a wall.
  • Tabletop Placement: Extend the fold-out stand located on the back of the clock to place it upright on a desk, shelf, or table.

3. Operating the Clock

The clock features several buttons on the back for manual adjustments and mode selection. Refer to the labels on the clock for specific button functions.

3.1. Setting Time Zone

The clock supports eight North American time zones. To change the time zone:

  1. Press the "TIME ZONE" button (or equivalent, refer to your clock's specific button labels) repeatedly to cycle through the available time zones: Pacific, Mountain, Central, Eastern, Atlantic, Newfoundland, Alaska, and Hawaii.
  2. The display will update to show the time for the selected zone.

3.2. Display Modes (Time, Date, Temperature)

The clock offers various display options for time format, date, and temperature units.

  • Time Format: Press the "12/24 HR" button to switch between AM/PM (12-hour) and 24-hour formats.
  • Temperature Unit: Press the "C/F" button to toggle between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F) for indoor temperature display.

4. Care and Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Marathon Atomic Wall Clock, follow these simple care instructions:

  • Cleaning: Wipe the clock's surface with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or chemical sprays, as these can damage the display or finish.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the display dims or the clock stops functioning. Always replace both batteries at the same time with new AA alkaline batteries. Dispose of old batteries responsibly according to local regulations.
  • Placement: Avoid placing the clock in direct sunlight, near heat sources, or in areas with extreme temperature fluctuations, as this may affect accuracy and display readability.
  • Signal Reception: If the clock loses synchronization, try relocating it to an area with better radio signal reception, such as near a window.

5. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Clock does not display time or display is dim.Batteries are low or incorrectly installed.Replace batteries with new AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
Clock does not synchronize or shows incorrect time.Poor radio signal reception; clock is out of range of NIST signal; interference from other electronics.Relocate the clock closer to a window or an open area. Keep it away from electronic devices (TVs, computers, microwaves). Allow up to 24 hours for synchronization.
Temperature reading is inaccurate.Clock is placed near a heat source or in direct sunlight.Move the clock to a location with stable ambient temperature, away from direct heat or cold sources.
Display shows "---" or "NO SIGNAL".No atomic signal received.Ensure the clock is within North America. Try repositioning the clock for better signal reception. Manual time setting is not available for this atomic clock.
