4. Setup and Installation

The Sparco Manual Gear Shift Knob is designed for easy installation on most manual transmission shifter shafts. Follow these steps for proper installation:

  1. Prepare the Vehicle: Ensure the vehicle is parked, the engine is off, and the parking brake is engaged.
  2. Remove Existing Shift Knob: Unscrew or detach the original shift knob from the shifter shaft. This usually involves twisting counter-clockwise.
  3. Select Appropriate Sleeve: Choose one of the three provided plastic sleeves that best fits the diameter of your vehicle's shifter shaft. The sleeve should fit snugly over the shaft.
  4. Install Sleeve: Slide the selected sleeve onto the shifter shaft. If the shaft has a threaded top, the sleeve may need to be screwed on. Apply gentle force if necessary, but avoid overtightening to prevent damage to the sleeve. Position the sleeve to achieve the desired height for the new shift knob.
  5. Position New Shift Knob: Place the Sparco shift knob over the installed sleeve and shifter shaft. Ensure it sits flush and is oriented correctly.
  6. Secure Shift Knob: Insert the three set screws into the designated holes on the side of the Sparco shift knob. Using the provided Allen key, tighten the set screws evenly until the shift knob is firmly secured to the shifter shaft. Do not overtighten, as this may damage the sleeve or shaft.
  7. Verify Security: Gently attempt to pull the shift knob upwards and twist it to ensure it is securely fastened and does not move or rotate freely.

5. Operation

Once installed, the Sparco Manual Gear Shift Knob functions identically to your vehicle's original shift knob. It provides a comfortable and secure grip for engaging gears in a manual transmission. No special operational procedures are required beyond standard manual shifting techniques.

6. Maintenance

To maintain the appearance and integrity of your Sparco Gear Shift Knob:

  • Clean the aluminum surface with a soft, damp cloth.
  • Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the finish.
  • Periodically check the set screws to ensure they remain tight and the knob is securely attached.

7. Troubleshooting

If you experience any issues with your Sparco Gear Shift Knob:

  • Knob feels loose: Re-tighten the set screws using the Allen key. Ensure the correct plastic sleeve is used for a snug fit on the shifter shaft.
  • Difficulty shifting: This is unlikely to be caused by the shift knob itself. Verify that the knob is not interfering with any surrounding components. If issues persist, consult a qualified mechanic.
