1. Introduction
The BT-7 was a Russian tank that began production in 1935. It incorporated some design features from tanks developed by American engineer Walter Christie. "BT" stood for "Bystrokhodny Tank (Fast Tank)" and the tank featured excellent maneuverability. The unique wedge-shaped frontal area and large road wheels have been accurately reproduced from extensive research. Distinctive turret shape of the 1937 model has been faithfully rendered. Mechanically complicated suspension is detailed and easy to assemble. Assembly type tracks feature one-piece straight sections. Photo-etched parts for engine cover and radiator included. Clear parts for headlight lenses and vision block as well as metal tow chain are included. Officer and commander figures included. Comes with 3 marking options.

3. Setup and Assembly
This model kit requires assembly. Please read all instructions carefully before beginning. Recommended for ages 16 and up.
3.1 Tools and Materials Required (Not Included)
- Plastic nippers or sprue cutters
- Hobby knife
- Plastic cement (model glue)
- Tweezers (for small parts and photo-etched parts)
- Sandpaper or sanding sticks (fine grit)
- Paints (acrylic or enamel, as per desired finish)
- Paint brushes or airbrush
- Decal setting solution (optional)
3.2 Assembly Steps
- Preparation: Carefully remove parts from the sprues using nippers. Clean any excess plastic (flash) with a hobby knife or sandpaper.
- Sub-Assemblies: Begin by assembling smaller sections such as the turret, suspension, and road wheels as indicated in the detailed instruction booklet. Pay close attention to the unique wedge-shaped frontal area and the distinctive turret shape.
- Suspension and Tracks: Assemble the mechanically complicated suspension system. The assembly type tracks feature one-piece straight sections for easier construction. Ensure proper alignment for smooth track movement (if applicable for display).
- Photo-Etched Parts: Attach the photo-etched parts for the engine cover and radiator using appropriate adhesive (e.g., super glue). Handle these delicate parts with tweezers.
- Main Hull Assembly: Join the sub-assemblies to form the main hull of the tank. Ensure all parts fit snugly before applying cement.
- Detailing: Add clear parts for headlight lenses and vision blocks. Attach the metal tow chain as shown in the diagrams.
- Figures: Assemble and paint the officer and commander figures.
- Painting and Decals: Once the model is fully assembled and dry, apply paint according to your chosen marking option. After painting, apply the decals using water and, if desired, decal setting solution for a seamless finish.

4. Operating and Display
Once assembled and painted, your Tamiya BT-7 model is ready for display. This is a static display model and is not designed for active play or rough handling.
- Handling: Always handle the model with care, preferably by its base or sturdy sections, to avoid damaging delicate parts like antennas, machine guns, or figures.
- Placement: Display your model on a stable, flat surface away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity. These conditions can cause paint fading, warping, or decal degradation over time.
- Dioramas: Consider integrating your model into a diorama to enhance its visual appeal and historical context.
5. Maintenance
Proper maintenance will ensure the longevity and pristine condition of your model.
- Dusting: Regularly dust the model using a soft, dry brush (such as a makeup brush or soft paintbrush) or a can of compressed air. Avoid wiping with cloths, as this can scratch the paint or dislodge small parts.
- Cleaning: For stubborn dust or grime, lightly dampen a cotton swab with water (or a very mild, non-abrasive cleaner if necessary, testing on an inconspicuous area first) and gently dab the affected area. Avoid harsh chemicals or solvents.
- Storage: If storing the model, place it in a sealed container or display case to protect it from dust and environmental factors.
6. Troubleshooting
Here are some common issues encountered during model building and their solutions:
- Parts Not Fitting:
- Ensure all sprue gates are completely removed and no flash remains.
- Check the instruction manual for correct part orientation and numbering.
- Lightly sand or trim mating surfaces if there's a slight misalignment.
- Decal Silvering:
- This occurs when air is trapped under the decal, making it look silvery. Apply decals to a glossy surface.
- Use decal setting solutions (e.g., Micro Sol, Mr. Mark Setter) to help the decal conform to the surface and eliminate air bubbles.
- Paint Issues (e.g., brush strokes, uneven finish):
- Ensure paint is properly thinned.
- Apply multiple thin coats instead of one thick coat.
- Allow sufficient drying time between coats.
- Photo-Etched Parts Detaching:
- Use super glue (cyanoacrylate adhesive) for photo-etched parts, as plastic cement will not bond them.
- Apply a very small amount of glue to avoid excess.
