Setup and First Use
- Unpack the Machine: Remove all packaging materials and place the machine on a stable, flat surface.
- Rinse the Water Tank: Wash the water tank with fresh drinking water before filling.
- Fill the Water Tank: Fill the water tank with fresh drinking water and place it back on the machine.
- Plug In: Connect the power cord to a grounded electrical outlet.
- Turn On: Press either the Espresso or Lungo button to turn on the machine. The buttons will blink while the machine preheats (approximately 25 seconds). They will glow steadily when ready.
- Initial Rinse Cycle: Place a container (at least 1 liter) under the coffee outlet. Press the Lungo button three times to flush the system with water. This primes the pump and cleans the internal components.

Operating Instructions
Brewing Coffee
- Ensure Water Tank is Full: Check that the water tank contains sufficient fresh water.
- Turn On Machine: Press either the Espresso or Lungo button. Wait for the buttons to stop blinking and glow steadily.
- Place Cup: Position a cup under the coffee outlet. The pivoting cup tray can be adjusted for different cup sizes.
- Insert Capsule: Lift the capsule insertion lever completely, insert a Nespresso capsule, and close the lever firmly.
- Select Coffee Volume:
- Press the Espresso button for a small cup (approx. 40 ml / 1.35 oz).
- Press the Lungo button for a larger cup (approx. 110 ml / 3.7 oz).
- Eject Capsule: After brewing, lift and close the lever to eject the used capsule into the internal container.
Programming Coffee Volume
You can customize the volume for the Espresso and Lungo buttons:
- Turn on the machine and wait for it to preheat.
- Insert a Nespresso capsule.
- Press and hold the button you wish to program (Espresso or Lungo).
- Release the button when the desired volume of coffee has been dispensed into your cup. The machine will remember this setting for future use.
Automatic Power Off
The machine features an energy-saving function and will automatically turn off after 9 minutes of inactivity.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Daily Cleaning
- Empty and Clean Drip Tray & Used Capsule Container: After each use, or when full, remove and empty the drip tray and used capsule container. Wash them with warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly.
- Clean Water Tank: Rinse the water tank daily with fresh drinking water.
- Wipe Machine: Wipe the machine's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or immerse the machine in water.
Descaling
Regular descaling is crucial to maintain machine performance and coffee quality. The frequency depends on water hardness and usage. Refer to the Nespresso website or contact Nespresso Club for specific descaling instructions and descaling solution.
General Descaling Steps (always refer to Nespresso's official guide):
- Empty the drip tray and used capsule container.
- Fill the water tank with the Nespresso descaling solution mixed with water as per the solution's instructions.
- Place a large container (at least 1 liter) under the coffee outlet.
- Follow the specific descaling procedure for your Citiz model (often involves pressing and holding both coffee buttons for a few seconds to enter descaling mode).
- Run the descaling solution through the machine.
- Rinse the water tank and fill it with fresh water.
- Run several cycles of fresh water through the machine to thoroughly rinse it.
Troubleshooting
