PETZL FOOTAPE Adjustable Webbing Foot Loop Instruction Manual

Model: C47A

1. Introduction

The PETZL FOOTAPE is an adjustable webbing foot loop designed to enhance comfort and efficiency during rope ascents. It is constructed from abrasion-resistant nylon webbing, providing durability and a slightly rigid structure that helps it maintain its shape for easy foot insertion.

This foot loop is intended for use with handled ascenders such as the PETZL ASCENSION or BASIC, attaching via a Maillon or carabiner. It features a fully adjustable DoubleBack buckle for precise length customization and a height-adjustable elastic keeper to secure the foot within the loop, preventing accidental slippage during climbing activities.

2. Safety Information

Always ensure you have received proper training and instruction from a qualified professional before using any climbing or rope access equipment. Incorrect use can lead to serious injury or death. Regularly inspect your equipment for wear, damage, or deformation before and after each use. If any damage is found, discontinue use immediately.

The PETZL FOOTAPE is a component of a personal protective equipment (PPE) system. It is crucial to understand the complete system and how each component interacts. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for all equipment used in your system.

3. Setup

3.1 Attaching to an Ascender

The FOOTAPE is designed to attach to the lower attachment hole of a handled ascender (e.g., PETZL ASCENSION or BASIC) using a Maillon or a suitable carabiner. Ensure the connection is secure and properly locked according to the ascender and connector manufacturer's instructions.

3.2 Adjusting Length

The FOOTAPE features a DoubleBack buckle for length adjustment. To adjust, feed the webbing through the buckle until the desired length is achieved. Ensure the webbing is fully seated and the buckle is securely tightened. The ideal length allows for a comfortable step-up during ascent without excessive slack or tension.

3.3 Securing Your Foot

The foot loop includes a height-adjustable elastic keeper. After placing your foot into the loop, adjust this elastic strap to cinch around your ankle or boot. This helps to keep your foot securely in place and prevents it from slipping out during the ascent.

4. Operating Instructions

Once the FOOTAPE is securely attached to your ascender and adjusted to your preferred length, you can begin your rope ascent. Place your foot into the loop, ensuring the elastic keeper is snug. Use your leg strength to push yourself upwards, allowing the ascender to slide freely up the rope. When you weight the ascender, the cam will engage, holding your position. Repeat this motion, alternating between leg and arm strength, to ascend the rope efficiently.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

Clean the FOOTAPE with clean water and a mild soap. Rinse thoroughly and allow it to air dry completely away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents.

5.2 Inspection

Before and after each use, inspect the entire webbing for cuts, abrasions, fraying, or excessive wear. Check all stitching for loose threads or damage. Examine the DoubleBack buckle for any signs of deformation, cracks, or corrosion. Ensure the elastic keeper is intact and functions correctly.

5.3 Storage

Store the FOOTAPE in a cool, dry, dark place, away from direct sunlight, chemicals, and extreme temperatures. Avoid storing it near sharp objects or in conditions that could cause damage.

6. Troubleshooting

If the FOOTAPE does not function as expected, or if you encounter any issues during use, immediately cease operation. Inspect the device and its connections for any visible damage or incorrect setup. If the problem persists or if you are unsure about the safety of the equipment, consult a qualified professional or contact PETZL customer support.
