Setup and Installation

Before using your Plustek OpticFilm 8100 scanner, ensure proper setup and software installation. The scanner connects via USB and is compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems.

Hardware Setup

  1. Unpack all components: scanner unit, power adapter, USB cable, quick guide, and film/slide holders.
  2. Place the scanner on a stable, flat surface near your computer.
  3. Connect the power adapter to the scanner and a power outlet.
  4. Connect the scanner to your computer using the provided USB cable.

Software Installation (SilverFast SE Plus)

The scanner is bundled with SilverFast SE Plus software. Follow these steps to activate and install the software:

  1. Locate the SilverFast 9 paper card in the box. This card contains the serial number for your scanner and instructions for activating your SilverFast account.
  2. Visit the SilverFast account activation website as indicated on the card.
  3. Select your scanner model name and enter the hardware serial number to unlock your SilverFast serial number.
  4. If you have an existing MySilverFast account, log in. Otherwise, fill out the registration form to create a new account.
  5. Check your email for the activation link and follow the instructions to complete the software activation and download.

Operating the Scanner

The Plustek OpticFilm 8100 is designed for efficient and high-quality scanning of 35mm film and slides. The included SilverFast SE Plus software provides a user-friendly interface with powerful features.

Scanning Process

  1. Insert your 35mm film strips or mounted slides into the appropriate film or slide holder.
  2. Load the holder into the scanner's input slot.
  3. Launch the SilverFast SE Plus software on your computer.
  4. Use the software to preview your images. This allows you to adjust framing and settings before the final scan.
  5. Select your desired scanning resolution (from 600 dpi up to 7200 dpi) and output format. Note that higher resolutions will result in larger file sizes and longer scan times.
  6. Utilize SilverFast's image optimization features (detailed below) to enhance your scans.
  7. Initiate the scan. The software will process the image, including any selected enhancements.
