Comprehensive instructions for your Laco Pilot Watch

Introduction

Welcome to the instruction manual for your Laco / 1925 Men's 861749 Pilot Classic Analog Watch. This timepiece combines traditional design with modern craftsmanship, featuring an automatic movement, a durable stainless steel case, and a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. This guide provides essential information for setting up, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting your watch to ensure its longevity and accurate performance.

The Laco 861749 Paderborn model is equipped with a Swiss automatic movement, housed in a dark sandblasted stainless steel case with a 42 mm diameter. Its black dial features Superluminova for enhanced readability in low light conditions, complemented by a calf-leather strap with rivets. The watch is water-resistant up to 5 ATM.

Setup

Unboxing Your Watch

Your Laco watch comes in a black watch box with a zipper, designed to protect it during transit and for storage. Carefully open the box and remove the watch.

Setting the Time

  1. Locate the crown on the right side of the watch case.
  2. Gently pull the crown out to the time-setting position. For most automatic movements, this is the outermost position.
  3. Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to adjust the hour and minute hands to the correct time.
  4. Once the time is set, push the crown back in fully towards the watch case to engage the movement and start the watch.

Wearing the Watch

The watch is fitted with a calf-leather strap featuring rivets. Adjust the strap to a comfortable fit on your wrist, ensuring it is snug but not overly tight. The strap should allow for slight movement without rotating freely around your wrist.

Operating Your Watch

Automatic Movement

Your Laco 861749 watch is powered by an automatic mechanical movement. This means it does not require a battery. The movement is wound by the natural motion of your wrist. When worn regularly, the watch will maintain its power reserve. If the watch is not worn for an extended period, it may stop. To restart it, gently shake the watch for a few seconds or manually wind it by turning the crown clockwise in its innermost position (before pulling it out for time setting) about 20-30 times. Then, set the time as described in the Setup section.

Water Resistance

The Laco 861749 watch is water-resistant up to 5 ATM (50 meters or 165 feet). This rating means the watch is suitable for everyday use, including splashes, rain, and brief immersion in water. It is not suitable for swimming, showering, diving, or any water sports where the watch might be subjected to high-velocity water or prolonged immersion. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in before any contact with water.

Maintenance

Cleaning

  • Case and Crystal: Wipe the stainless steel case and sapphire crystal with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. For stubborn marks, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by immediate drying. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Leather Strap: Leather straps are susceptible to damage from water, sweat, and chemicals. Clean the strap with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Allow it to air dry completely. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or extreme temperatures, which can cause the leather to crack or fade.

General Care

  • Avoid exposing your watch to strong magnetic fields, as this can affect the accuracy of the mechanical movement.
  • Do not expose the watch to extreme temperature changes or direct impacts.
  • Ensure the crown is always fully pushed in to maintain water resistance.

Service Intervals

Like all mechanical watches, your Laco timepiece benefits from periodic professional servicing to ensure optimal performance and longevity. It is generally recommended to have an automatic watch serviced every 3-5 years by a qualified watchmaker or authorized Laco service center.

Troubleshooting

  • Watch Not Running: If the watch has stopped, it may simply need to be wound. Wear it for several hours or manually wind it using the crown as described in the 'Operating Your Watch' section. If it still does not run, it may require professional inspection.
  • Inaccurate Time: Minor deviations in timekeeping are normal for mechanical watches. However, if your watch is consistently running significantly fast or slow, it might be magnetized or require regulation. Contact a professional watchmaker.
  • Condensation Under Crystal: If you notice condensation or moisture under the sapphire crystal, this indicates a breach in water resistance. Immediately take the watch to a professional watchmaker to prevent further damage to the movement.
