5. Setup

5.1 Front Panel Overview

The front panel of the TOA PD-150 provides access to the main power switch, indicators, and an unswitched outlet. Refer to the image below for component identification.

Front panel of TOA PD-150 AC Power Distributor showing power switch, reset button, unswitched outlet, and A/B indicators.

Image 1: Front panel of the TOA PD-150 AC Power Distributor. From left to right, it shows rack-mount ears, the TOA logo, "AC POWER DISTRIBUTOR PD-150" text, 'A' and 'B' indicator lights, an "UNSWITCHED MAX 1000W" outlet, a red "RESET TOTAL MAX 1500W" button, and a "POWER" toggle switch (ON/OFF).

  • TOA Logo & Model: Identifies the brand and model.
  • A & B Indicators: These lights indicate the status of the switched outlets (typically, 'A' and 'B' correspond to groups of switched outlets on the rear panel, though not visible in this image).
  • UNSWITCHED MAX 1000W Outlet: A power outlet that remains continuously powered, independent of the main power switch. Do not exceed 1000W for this outlet.
  • RESET TOTAL MAX 1500W Button: A resettable circuit breaker. If the total power consumption exceeds 1500W, this button will pop out, cutting power to protect the unit and connected devices. Press it to restore power after reducing the load.
  • POWER Switch: The main toggle switch to turn the power distributor ON or OFF.

5.2 Physical Installation

  1. Rack Mounting: The PD-150 is designed for standard 19-inch rack mounting. Secure the unit using appropriate rack screws (not included) through the mounting ears on both sides of the front panel.
  2. Ventilation: Ensure there is sufficient space around the unit for proper airflow to prevent overheating.

5.3 Electrical Connections

  1. Main Power: Connect the attached power cord of the PD-150 to a suitable, grounded AC power outlet.
  2. Connecting Devices:
    • Connect devices that require switched power to the outlets on the rear panel (not visible in the provided image, but typical for power distributors).
    • For devices requiring continuous power, connect them to the "UNSWITCHED MAX 1000W" outlet on the front panel.
  3. Load Management: Ensure the total power consumption of all connected devices does not exceed 1500W. The unswitched outlet has a separate limit of 1000W.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Powering On/Off

  1. To Power On: Ensure all devices connected to the switched outlets are turned off or in standby mode. Flip the "POWER" toggle switch on the front panel to the "ON" position. The 'A' and 'B' indicators should illuminate, indicating power is supplied to the respective switched outlets.
  2. To Power Off: Turn off all connected devices. Flip the "POWER" toggle switch on the front panel to the "OFF" position. The 'A' and 'B' indicators will turn off.

6.2 Using the Unswitched Outlet

The "UNSWITCHED MAX 1000W" outlet on the front panel provides continuous power as long as the PD-150 is connected to an active AC source, regardless of the main "POWER" switch position. This is suitable for devices that should not be powered off with the main system, such as certain network equipment or chargers. Ensure the load on this outlet does not exceed 1000W.

6.3 Circuit Breaker (RESET Button)

The red "RESET TOTAL MAX 1500W" button acts as a circuit breaker. If the total power draw from all outlets (switched and unswitched) exceeds 1500W, this button will pop out, and power to all outlets will be cut. This protects the unit and connected equipment from damage due to overload.

To restore power after an overload:

  1. Turn off the main "POWER" switch.
  2. Unplug some devices to reduce the total load.
  3. Press the red "RESET" button firmly until it clicks back into place.
  4. Flip the main "POWER" switch to "ON".

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Disconnect the unit from the main power supply before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
  • Inspection: Periodically check the power cord and connections for any signs of damage or wear. If any damage is found, discontinue use and contact qualified service personnel.
  • Ventilation: Ensure ventilation openings remain clear of dust and debris.

8. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
No power to outlets (A/B indicators off).
  • Main power switch is OFF.
  • Power cord is disconnected.
  • Circuit breaker (RESET button) has tripped.
  • Wall outlet has no power.
  • Flip the POWER switch to ON.
  • Ensure power cord is securely connected to both the PD-150 and the wall outlet.
  • Press the RESET button firmly after reducing the load.
  • Check the wall outlet with another device or test the building's circuit breaker.
RESET button keeps tripping.
  • Total power consumption exceeds 1500W.
  • Faulty connected device.
  • Reduce the number of connected devices or replace high-power devices with lower-power alternatives.
  • Disconnect devices one by one to identify the faulty unit.
Unswitched outlet has no power.
  • Power cord is disconnected.
  • Circuit breaker (RESET button) has tripped.
  • Wall outlet has no power.
  • Load on unswitched outlet exceeds 1000W (less common for unswitched to trip independently, but possible if internal protection exists).
  • Ensure power cord is securely connected.
  • Press the RESET button firmly after reducing the load.
  • Check the wall outlet.
  • Reduce load on the unswitched outlet.
