3. Setup
3.1 Initial Charging
Your Eco-Drive watch is powered by light. Before initial use, or if the watch has stopped, ensure it is fully charged. Expose the watch dial to direct sunlight or strong artificial light for several hours. A full charge can take approximately 11 hours in direct sunlight or 40 hours under a fluorescent lamp (30W, 20cm distance). The watch has a power reserve of 180 days when fully charged.
3.2 Setting the Time and Date
- Unscrew the Crown: Rotate the crown counter-clockwise until it is released from the case.
- Pull the Crown to Position 2 (Time Setting): Gently pull the crown out to the second click position. The second hand will stop.
- Set the Time: Rotate the crown to move the hour and minute hands. To ensure the AM/PM is correctly set for the date change, advance the hands past 12 o'clock. If the date changes, it is midnight. If it does not, it is noon.
- Set the Date: Push the crown in to Position 1 (Date Setting). Rotate the crown to set the correct date. Avoid setting the date between 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM, as this may interfere with the date change mechanism.
- Push and Screw Down the Crown: Once the time and date are set, push the crown back into the normal position and screw it down clockwise firmly against the case to maintain water resistance.

3.3 Adjusting the Bracelet
The stainless steel bracelet features a double safety clasp and a fine adjustment system. For initial sizing, links may need to be added or removed by a qualified jeweler. The fine adjustment allows for minor changes to fit over a wetsuit or for comfort. To use the extension, open the clasp and locate the lever or button on the inside of the clasp. Press or lift it to extend the bracelet.

4. Operating the Watch
4.1 Using the Unidirectional Rotating Bezel
The bezel rotates only counter-clockwise to prevent accidental increases in dive time. To use it for dive timing:
- Before descending, align the '0' mark on the bezel with the minute hand.
- As time passes, the minute hand will indicate the elapsed time on the bezel's scale.
- The bezel can also be used to time other events up to 60 minutes.
4.2 Water Resistance Guidelines
The BN0100-51E is water resistant to 200 meters (20 bar). This rating means it is suitable for scuba diving. Always ensure the crown is fully screwed down before exposing the watch to water. Do not operate the crown or pushers (if any) while the watch is wet or submerged.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning
Wipe the watch regularly with a soft, dry cloth. After exposure to saltwater, rinse the watch thoroughly with fresh water and dry it completely. This prevents salt buildup and corrosion.
5.2 Charging Recommendations
To maintain optimal performance, expose your watch to light regularly. Avoid storing the watch in dark places for extended periods. If the watch is stored in darkness, it may enter a power-saving mode (if applicable) or stop completely, requiring a full recharge.
5.3 Power Reserve Indicator (if applicable)
This model does not feature a dedicated power reserve indicator. However, if the second hand starts moving in two-second intervals, it indicates a low charge warning. Recharge the watch immediately.
6. Troubleshooting
- Watch has stopped or runs irregularly: This typically indicates insufficient charge. Expose the watch to strong light for several hours to fully recharge it. If the issue persists after adequate charging, contact Citizen service.
- Date does not change at midnight: Check if the AM/PM setting was correct when setting the time. If the watch was set to PM when it should have been AM, the date will change at noon instead of midnight. Reset the time, ensuring the AM/PM is correct.
- Water inside the watch: If you notice condensation or water inside the watch, immediately take it to an authorized Citizen service center. Do not attempt to open the watch yourself.
