4. Gameplay Overview

Zombicide is played over a series of rounds, each divided into two main phases: the Survivors' Phase and the Zombies' Phase. Players win by completing the scenario's objectives and lose if all survivors are eliminated.

4.1. Survivors' Phase

During this phase, each survivor takes their turn in the order determined by the First Player Token. On their turn, a survivor can perform a set number of actions (usually 3, but this can change with experience levels). Available actions include:

  • Move: Move one zone.
  • Search: Search the current zone for equipment (if applicable).
  • Open Door: Open a closed door.
  • Attack: Use a weapon to attack zombies in range.
  • Reorganize Inventory: Swap items in your inventory.
  • Take Objective: Interact with an objective token.

As survivors eliminate zombies, they gain experience points, which unlock new skills and increase their Danger Level. Higher Danger Levels attract more zombies.

4.2. Zombies' Phase

After all survivors have taken their turns, the zombies activate. This phase consists of two steps:

  1. Activate Zombies: Each zombie miniature on the board moves towards the nearest survivor or attacks a survivor in its zone.
  2. Spawn New Zombies: Draw Zombie cards for each active Zombie Spawn Token and place new zombie miniatures on the board as indicated by the cards.

The game continues with alternating Survivor and Zombie phases until the scenario's win or loss conditions are met.

5. Care and Storage

To ensure the longevity of your Zombicide game components, please follow these care and storage guidelines:

  • Storage: Store all miniatures, cards, and tokens in their original box or a suitable storage solution to prevent damage and loss. Keep the game in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Cleaning: Dust miniatures and game tiles gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Handling: Handle cards and miniatures with care to prevent bending, creasing, or breaking.

6. Common Questions & Troubleshooting

Here are answers to some frequently asked questions and solutions to common issues:

  • Missing Components: If any components are missing, please contact CMON customer support (see Section 8).
  • Rule Clarifications: Refer to the official Zombicide Rulebook for detailed rules and specific scenarios. Online forums and official CMON resources can also provide clarifications.
  • "Friendly Fire" Rule: The game includes a "friendly fire" rule where shots into a zone containing another survivor automatically hit them first. This is an intentional design element to add strategic depth and challenge.
  • Game Length: Game duration can vary from 20 minutes for beginner boards to 3 hours for expert boards, depending on the scenario and player experience.
