3.2 LED Indicators
The front panel includes LED indicators to provide visual status of the switch and its ports:
- POWER LED: Indicates the power status of the switch.
- PoE MAX LED: Illuminates when the total PoE power budget is nearing its maximum capacity.
- LINK/ACT LEDs (per port): Indicates a network link and data activity for each port.
- PoE STATUS LEDs (per port): Indicates Power over Ethernet status for each port (e.g., PoE enabled, PoE error).
3.3 Dimensions
The compact design of the TPE-TG80G allows for flexible placement in various environments.

4. Setup
Follow these steps to set up your TRENDnet TPE-TG80G 8-Port Gigabit PoE+ Switch:
- Placement: Position the switch on a flat, stable surface or mount it in a suitable location. Ensure adequate ventilation around the device.
- Connect Power: Connect the included power adapter to the switch's power input port and then plug the adapter into a standard electrical outlet. The POWER LED on the front panel should illuminate.
- Connect Network Devices: Connect your network devices (e.g., computers, network-attached storage, non-PoE devices) to any of the 8 Gigabit ports using standard Ethernet cables.
- Connect PoE Devices: For Power over Ethernet (PoE) compatible devices (e.g., IP cameras, wireless access points), connect them to any of the 8 Gigabit PoE+ ports using Ethernet cables. The switch will automatically detect and provide power to these devices. Each port can supply up to 30W of PoE power, with a total budget of 123W for the switch.

5. Operating Instructions
The TRENDnet TPE-TG80G is an unmanaged switch, meaning it operates automatically without requiring configuration. Once powered on and devices are connected, it will facilitate network communication.
5.1 Monitoring with LED Indicators
Observe the LED indicators on the front panel to confirm proper operation:
- A solid POWER LED indicates the switch is receiving power.
- A solid LINK/ACT LED for a port indicates a successful network connection. A blinking LED indicates data activity.
- A solid PoE STATUS LED for a port indicates that a PoE device is connected and receiving power. A blinking LED may indicate a PoE error or power negotiation issue.
- The PoE MAX LED will illuminate if the total power draw from connected PoE devices approaches the 123W budget. If this LED is on, consider the total power requirements of your devices to avoid overloading.
5.2 Power over Ethernet (PoE+) Functionality
The switch automatically detects whether a connected device is PoE compatible and supplies the necessary power (up to 30W per port). It supports both PoE (802.3af) and PoE+ (802.3at) standards. Non-PoE devices can also be connected to any port without issue.

6. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your switch.
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the switch. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.
- Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation openings are not blocked. The fanless design relies on natural airflow for cooling.
- Environment: Operate the switch within the specified temperature and humidity ranges to prevent damage.
- Cable Management: Keep network cables organized to prevent strain on ports and improve airflow.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your TRENDnet TPE-TG80G switch, refer to the following troubleshooting steps:
- No Power:
- Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to the switch and a working electrical outlet.
- Verify the power outlet is functional by plugging in another device.
- No Link/Activity on a Port:
- Check the Ethernet cable connection between the switch and the device. Try a different cable.
- Ensure the connected device is powered on and functioning correctly.
- Try connecting the device to a different port on the switch.
- PoE Device Not Receiving Power:
- Verify the device is PoE compatible (IEEE 802.3af/at).
- Check the PoE STATUS LED for the port. If it's off or blinking, there might be a power issue.
- Ensure the total PoE power budget (123W) is not exceeded. If the PoE MAX LED is on, some devices may not receive power. Disconnect non-essential PoE devices to test.
- Try a different Ethernet cable, as some cables may not be suitable for PoE.
- Slow Network Speed:
- Ensure all connected devices and cables support Gigabit Ethernet for optimal performance.
- Check for excessive network traffic or bottlenecks elsewhere in your network.
