Setup
1. Battery Installation
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the handset.
- Open the battery compartment cover.
- Connect the rechargeable battery pack plug securely into the jack inside the compartment.
- Place the battery pack with the label THIS SIDE UP facing up.
- Replace the battery compartment cover, ensuring it clicks into place.
2. Charging the Handset
- Plug the small end of the power adapter into the power jack on the back of the handset charger.
- Plug the large end of the power adapter into a standard electrical outlet.
- Place the handset in the charger with the display facing forward. The CHARGE light on the handset will illuminate, indicating it is charging.
- Allow the handset to charge for at least 16 hours before initial use. For optimal battery performance, keep the handset in the charger when not in use.
3. Registering the Handset
The DS6401 is an accessory handset and must be registered to a VTech DS6421 or DS6422 expandable phone system base unit to function. Refer to your main system's user manual for specific registration instructions. Generally, this involves placing the handset in the base unit's charger and pressing a registration button on the base unit.
Operating Instructions
Making and Receiving Calls
- To Make a Call: Press PHONE or SPEAKER, then dial the number.
- To Answer a Call: Press any dialing key (0-9, #, *), PHONE, or SPEAKER.
- To End a Call: Press OFF/CANCEL or place the handset in the charger.
Volume Control
During a call, press VOL+ or VOL- on the side of the handset to adjust the listening volume.
Intercom Function
To use the intercom feature between handsets, press INT and then the number of the desired handset. This feature is dependent on your main system's capabilities.
Caller ID
The handset display will show caller ID information if you subscribe to this service. The system may also announce caller ID information, depending on your main system's settings.
