1. Product Overview

The Kwikset Montara Front Door Lock Handle and Deadbolt Set provides enhanced security and a classic aesthetic for your home's entry. This handleset features two points of locking, incorporating both a deadbolt and a handle, offering double security. It includes Kwikset's SmartKey Security technology, which protects against advanced break-in techniques and allows for convenient re-keying. 2. What's Included

The Kwikset Montara Handleset package contains all necessary components for installation and operation:

3. Installation

Follow these steps for a successful installation. A screwdriver is typically sufficient, but a drill may be needed if your door lacks a bottom handleset support hole.

1. Remove Existing Hardware: Begin by removing the old handleset and deadbolt from your door. Start with the interior components, then proceed to the exterior.
2. Install Deadbolt Latch: Insert the new deadbolt latch into the top bore hole on the edge of the door. Secure it with the provided small screws.
3. Install Handle Latch: Insert the handle latch into the lower bore hole on the edge of the door. Secure it with the provided small screws.
4. Install Exterior Deadbolt: Position the exterior deadbolt component into the top hole on the outside of the door, ensuring the spindle aligns correctly with the deadbolt latch.
5. Install Interior Deadbolt: Attach the interior deadbolt turn piece to the inside of the door, aligning it with the exterior deadbolt and securing it with screws.
6. Install Exterior Handleset: Insert the exterior handleset into the lower hole on the outside of the door. Ensure the spindle engages with the handle latch.
7. Install Interior Door Knob: Attach the interior door knob to the inside of the door, aligning it with the exterior handleset and securing it with screws.
8. Secure Bottom Handleset: If your door does not have a pre-drilled hole for the bottom of the handleset, use the provided template to mark and drill a new hole. Secure the bottom of the handleset with the long screw and cover cap.
9. Install Strike Plates: Replace the old strike plates on the door frame with the new ones provided, securing them with screws.

4. SmartKey Security and Re-keying

Kwikset's SmartKey Security offers advanced protection against common break-in methods like lock bumping and picking. It also provides the convenience of re-keying your lock yourself in seconds, allowing you to match your new lock to an existing key or change keys as needed.

Re-keying Process:

1. Insert Functioning Key: Insert your currently functioning key fully into the cylinder and turn it 90 degrees clockwise.
2. Insert SmartKey Learn Tool: While the functioning key is still turned, insert the SmartKey Learn Tool fully into the SmartKey hole. Remove the SmartKey Learn Tool.
3. Remove Functioning Key: Remove your functioning key.
4. Insert New Key: Insert your new key fully into the cylinder and turn it 180 degrees counter-clockwise.
5. Test New Key: Remove the new key and test it to ensure it operates the lock correctly.

5. Operating the Lockset

The Kwikset Montara Handleset is designed for ease of use and reliable security.

• Exterior Operation: The exterior deadbolt is operated by a key. The handleset features a thumb-press mechanism to retract the latch bolt.
• Interior Operation: The interior deadbolt is operated by a turn button. The interior door knob operates by turning the knob to retract the latch bolt.
• Security: The handleset provides two points of locking for enhanced security.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and smooth operation of your Kwikset Montara Handleset, follow these maintenance guidelines:

• Cleaning: Clean the exterior finish with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish.
• Lubrication: Periodically lubricate the internal mechanisms of the lock and deadbolt with a graphite-based lubricant or a silicone spray. Do not use oil-based lubricants as they can attract dust and grime.
• Tighten Screws: Check and tighten all mounting screws periodically to ensure the handleset remains securely attached to the door.
