Introduction
The Fluke 62 Max is a robust and reliable industrial infrared thermometer designed for non-contact surface temperature measurement. It is engineered to withstand harsh industrial environments, featuring an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance and a durable design capable of withstanding a 3-meter drop. This device is ideal for monitoring electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and automotive systems.
Important Note: This product is intended for industrial use only and is not designed or approved for measuring human body temperature.
Safety Information
Before operating the Fluke 62 Max, please read and understand all safety warnings and operating instructions. Failure to do so may result in injury or damage to the product.
- This thermometer is for industrial applications only. Do not use it for medical purposes or to measure human body temperature.
- Do not point the laser directly at eyes or indirectly off reflective surfaces.
- Exercise caution when measuring hot surfaces. The thermometer measures surface temperature, but objects may have internal temperatures significantly higher or lower.
- Do not use the thermometer in explosive gas, vapor, or dust environments.
- Ensure the battery compartment is securely closed before use, especially in dusty or wet environments.

Setup
Battery Installation
- Locate the battery compartment cover, typically on the handle of the thermometer.
- Open the battery compartment.
- Insert one AA battery, ensuring correct polarity (+ and -).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
Powering On/Off
The thermometer powers on automatically when the measurement trigger is pressed. It will power off automatically after a period of inactivity to conserve battery life.
Operating Instructions
Taking a Measurement
- Point the thermometer at the target object.
- Press and hold the measurement trigger. The laser will activate, indicating the center of the measurement area.
- The temperature reading will appear on the display.
- Release the trigger to hold the reading on the display. The thermometer will automatically turn off after a period of inactivity.

Distance to Spot Ratio (D:S)
The Fluke 62 Max has a 10:1 D:S ratio. This means that at a distance of 10 units from the target, the measurement spot diameter will be 1 unit. For example, if you are 10 inches away from the target, the measurement spot will be 1 inch in diameter. To ensure accurate readings, make sure the target area is larger than the spot size.
Adjusting Emissivity
Emissivity is a measure of an object's ability to emit infrared energy. Different materials have different emissivity values. For accurate measurements, adjust the thermometer's emissivity setting to match the material being measured. Refer to the thermometer's display for the current emissivity setting (e.g., "EMS 0.95"). Consult a standard emissivity table for common materials.
Min/Max/Avg/Diff Modes
The thermometer can display various statistical temperature readings:
- MIN: Displays the minimum temperature recorded during a continuous measurement.
- MAX: Displays the maximum temperature recorded during a continuous measurement.
- AVG: Displays the average temperature recorded during a continuous measurement.
- DIF: Displays the difference between the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded.
Use the "SEL" button to cycle through these display modes.

Maintenance
Cleaning the Thermometer
To maintain the accuracy and longevity of your Fluke 62 Max, keep the lens and the unit clean. The product care instructions specify "Wipe Clean".
- Use a soft, damp cloth with mild soap and water to clean the casing. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- For the lens, use a soft cloth or cotton swab with water or medical alcohol. Do not scratch the lens.
Battery Replacement
When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the AA battery as described in the "Setup" section.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No display/Unit does not power on | Dead or incorrectly installed battery. | Replace battery, ensuring correct polarity. |
| Inaccurate readings | Incorrect emissivity setting; target too small; lens dirty; outside operating temperature range. | Adjust emissivity; ensure target is larger than spot size; clean lens; operate within specified temperature range. |
| Laser not visible | Laser disabled (if applicable); bright ambient light; laser malfunction. | Check settings; move to a less brightly lit area; contact support if persistent. |
