Setup

Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover, typically on the handle of the thermometer.
  2. Open the battery compartment.
  3. Insert one AA battery, ensuring correct polarity (+ and -).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

Powering On/Off

The thermometer powers on automatically when the measurement trigger is pressed. It will power off automatically after a period of inactivity to conserve battery life.

Operating Instructions

Taking a Measurement

  1. Point the thermometer at the target object.
  2. Press and hold the measurement trigger. The laser will activate, indicating the center of the measurement area.
  3. The temperature reading will appear on the display.
  4. Release the trigger to hold the reading on the display. The thermometer will automatically turn off after a period of inactivity.

Distance to Spot Ratio (D:S)

The Fluke 62 Max has a 10:1 D:S ratio. This means that at a distance of 10 units from the target, the measurement spot diameter will be 1 unit. For example, if you are 10 inches away from the target, the measurement spot will be 1 inch in diameter. To ensure accurate readings, make sure the target area is larger than the spot size.

Adjusting Emissivity

Emissivity is a measure of an object's ability to emit infrared energy. Different materials have different emissivity values. For accurate measurements, adjust the thermometer's emissivity setting to match the material being measured. Refer to the thermometer's display for the current emissivity setting (e.g., "EMS 0.95"). Consult a standard emissivity table for common materials.

Min/Max/Avg/Diff Modes

The thermometer can display various statistical temperature readings:

Use the "SEL" button to cycle through these display modes.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Thermometer

To maintain the accuracy and longevity of your Fluke 62 Max, keep the lens and the unit clean. The product care instructions specify "Wipe Clean".

Battery Replacement

When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the AA battery as described in the "Setup" section.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No display/Unit does not power onDead or incorrectly installed battery.Replace battery, ensuring correct polarity.
Inaccurate readingsIncorrect emissivity setting; target too small; lens dirty; outside operating temperature range.Adjust emissivity; ensure target is larger than spot size; clean lens; operate within specified temperature range.
Laser not visibleLaser disabled (if applicable); bright ambient light; laser malfunction.Check settings; move to a less brightly lit area; contact support if persistent.
