4. Setup
4.1 Placement
Proper placement of your subwoofer is crucial for optimal sound performance. Consider the following:
- Corner Placement: Placing the subwoofer in a corner of the room can often enhance bass output due to room acoustics.
- Near Front Speakers: Positioning the subwoofer near your main front speakers can help create a more seamless soundstage.
- Listening Position: Experiment with different locations by temporarily placing the subwoofer at your primary listening position, then moving around the room to find where the bass sounds most balanced and impactful.
- Stability: Ensure the subwoofer is placed on a stable, level surface to prevent vibrations and unwanted noise.
4.2 Connections
The SL-D501(D) offers flexible connection options for integration into your audio system.

Option 1: Using Line Level Input (Recommended for AV Receivers with Subwoofer Output)
- Connect an RCA cable from the subwoofer pre-out (LFE or SUB OUT) on your AV receiver to the INPUT (MONO) jack on the SL-D501(D) rear panel.
- Adjust the subwoofer's volume and crossover frequency settings on your AV receiver.
Option 2: Using Speaker Level Input (For Amplifiers without Subwoofer Output)
- Connect speaker wires from the speaker outputs of your amplifier/receiver to the SPEAKER LEVEL INPUT terminals (R+-, L+-) on the SL-D501(D) rear panel.
- Then, connect speaker wires from the SPEAKER LEVEL OUTPUT terminals (R+-, L+-) on the SL-D501(D) to your main front speakers.

The subwoofer has a power switch, typically located on the rear panel. Some models may also feature an auto-standby function, where the unit automatically turns on when an audio signal is detected and enters standby mode after a period of inactivity.
The 'POWER' indicator light on the front panel will illuminate when the unit is on.
5.2 Adjusting Settings
The SL-D501(D) can be controlled remotely. Adjustments for volume, crossover frequency, and phase are typically found on the rear panel or accessible via the remote control.
- Volume: Adjust the subwoofer's output level to blend seamlessly with your main speakers.
- Crossover Frequency: This control determines the highest frequency the subwoofer will reproduce. Set it to match the low-frequency capabilities of your main speakers. A common starting point is 80 Hz.
- Phase: The phase control (0° or 180°) helps ensure that the subwoofer's sound waves are in sync with your main speakers. Experiment with both settings to find the one that produces the most coherent and impactful bass at your listening position.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps prolong the life and performance of your subwoofer.
- Cleaning: Wipe the cabinet with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, lightly dampen the cloth with water and then wipe dry. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents, as they can damage the finish.
- Dust: Regularly dust the speaker grille and cabinet to prevent dust buildup, which can affect sound quality and ventilation.
- Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation openings on the unit are not obstructed by dust or other objects.
