2. Safety Instructions
WARNING: To prevent fire or electric shock, do not expose this appliance to rain or moisture.
- Always connect the speakers to an amplifier with appropriate power output and impedance matching (8 Ohm). Overpowering can damage the speakers.
- Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
- Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
- Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched, particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.
- Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.
- Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.
- Avoid prolonged listening at high volume levels to prevent hearing damage.

5. Setup
5.1 Placement
For optimal sound dispersion, place the speakers on a stable, flat surface or mount them on appropriate speaker stands using the integrated 35mm flange. Ensure there is adequate space around the speakers for proper ventilation and to avoid obstructing the bass reflex port.
5.2 Connections
The McGrey TP-8 speakers are passive and require an external amplifier. Connect the speakers to your amplifier's speaker outputs using high-quality speaker cables. The speakers feature both clamp terminals and a 6.3 mm jack input for connection. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -) when using the clamp terminals to avoid phase issues that can negatively impact sound quality.
- Using Clamp Terminals: Unscrew the terminals, insert the stripped ends of your speaker wire (red for positive, black for negative), and tighten the terminals securely.
- Using 6.3 mm Jack: Insert a 6.3 mm (1/4 inch) TS speaker cable into the jack input.
Important: Ensure your amplifier's impedance output matches the speaker's 8 Ohm impedance. Using an amplifier with an impedance lower than 8 Ohm can damage both the amplifier and the speakers.
6. Operation
6.1 Basic Operation
Once properly connected to an amplifier, the McGrey TP-8 speakers will reproduce audio signals from your source. Control the volume and audio settings directly from your amplifier or audio source device.
- Turn on your amplifier first, then your audio source.
- Start with the volume at a low level and gradually increase it to your desired listening level.
- When finished, turn off your audio source first, then your amplifier.
6.2 Sound Optimization
The sound quality of your speakers can be influenced by room acoustics and placement. Experiment with speaker positioning to find the best sound balance. For enhanced bass response, consider pairing these speakers with a dedicated subwoofer.
7. Maintenance
7.1 Cleaning
To maintain the appearance and performance of your speakers:
- Wipe the exterior surfaces with a soft, dry cloth.
- Do not use liquid cleaners, aerosols, or abrasive chemicals, as these may damage the finish or internal components.
- Keep the speaker grilles free of dust and debris. A soft brush or vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment can be used carefully.
7.2 Storage
If storing the speakers for an extended period:
- Store them in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Protect them from dust and moisture, ideally in their original packaging or a protective cover.
8. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your McGrey TP-8 speakers, refer to the table below for common problems and their solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No sound from speakers | Incorrect connections Amplifier off or muted Audio source issue | Check speaker cable connections and polarity. Ensure amplifier is powered on and not muted. Check amplifier's input selection. Verify audio source is playing and its volume is up. |
| Distorted sound | Volume too high Impedance mismatch Damaged speaker cable | Reduce volume on amplifier. Ensure amplifier's output impedance matches speaker's 8 Ohm. Inspect speaker cables for damage; replace if necessary. |
| One speaker not working | Faulty cable Incorrect connection Amplifier channel issue | Swap speaker cables between speakers to identify if cable is faulty. Recheck connections for the non-working speaker. Test the amplifier channel with another speaker if possible. |
| Low volume output | Low input signal Amplifier not powerful enough | Increase volume on audio source. Ensure amplifier has sufficient power for the speakers (150W RMS per speaker). |
