  • Exterior Keypad Assembly
  • Interior Lever Assembly
  • Latch
  • Strike Plate
  • Mounting Plate
  • Screws (various sizes)
  • Keys
  • 9V Battery (included)
  • Installation Instructions & Programming Guide (with default codes)

Tools Required

For a standard door preparation, the only tool you will need is a standard Phillips head screwdriver.

Installation

Follow these steps to install your SCHLAGE FE599NX Keypad Lever:

  1. Record Codes: Before installation, write down the 6-digit programming code and the two preset user codes found on the yellow sticker on the back of the keypad assembly or in your installation instructions. These are crucial for setup.
  2. Install Latch: Insert the latch into the door edge. Ensure the beveled edge of the latch bolt faces the door jamb. Secure it with the provided screws if using a rectangular faceplate, or tap it flush with a block of wood if using a round faceplate.
  3. Install Keypad: Feed the cable from the exterior keypad assembly under the latch assembly. Slide the tailpiece through the hole in the latch. Ensure the tailpiece slides straight through without being at an angle.
  4. Adjust Hands-Free Post: While holding the keypad in place, use a Phillips head screwdriver to adjust the hands-free post so it extends beyond the inside surface of the door.
  5. Install Mounting Plate: Slide the interior mounting plate onto the door, over the hands-free post. Feed the keypad cable through the rectangular hole in the mounting plate. Do not connect the cable yet. The mounting plate should sit flush against the door surface. If not, further adjust the hands-free post.
  6. Connect Cables & Install Batteries: Connect the cables from the keypad to the interior assembly. Tuck the wires into the space provided on the right side of the mounting plate. Install the four AA batteries and the battery cover at the bottom of the mounting plate.
  7. Install Levers: Ensure each lever is oriented to point towards the hinge edge of the door and away from the latch edge. Snap the levers into place.

Setup & Enrollment with Nexia Home Intelligence

After physical installation, enroll your lock with your Nexia Home Intelligence system:

  1. Prepare Nexia Bridge: Disconnect your Nexia Bridge from power and Ethernet. Install a 9V battery into the bridge for temporary power during enrollment.
  2. Position Bridge: Hold the bridge within 6 feet of the lock during the enrollment process.
  3. Initiate Enrollment (Bridge): Press and release the 'plus' button on the bridge. The orange light on the bridge will begin blinking.
  4. Enter Programming Code (Lock): On the keypad lever, enter the 6-digit programming code (from the yellow sticker). The Schlage button will blink orange three times, and you will hear three beeps.
  5. Complete Enrollment (Lock): Now, press the Schlage button, then the '0' button. The Schlage button will blink orange while enrollment is in progress. The orange LED on the bridge will blink rapidly.
  6. Verify Enrollment: The enrollment process is complete when the orange LED on the bridge stops blinking.
  7. Reconnect Bridge: After enrollment, remove the battery from your bridge and reconnect it to power and Ethernet.

Operation

Once installed and enrolled, operate your keypad lever as follows:

  • Locking from Interior: Press the lock button on the interior assembly. It will turn red, indicating the lock is engaged. The outside lever will move freely but will not retract the latch.
  • Unlocking from Interior: Press the unlock button on the interior assembly. It will turn green, indicating the lock is disengaged. The outside lever will now retract the latch.
  • Unlocking from Exterior: Enter one of the 4-digit preset user codes. The Schlage button will flash green, and the door will unlock for 5 seconds. Press the lever to retract the latch.

Always keep the door open during initial testing to prevent accidental lockout.

Programming User Codes

Refer to your user instructions or visit www.mynexia.com to manually change, add, or delete user codes for your keypad lever. This allows for customized access for different users.

Maintenance

  • Battery Replacement: The lock requires 1 9V battery (included). Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears or when the lock's response becomes sluggish.
  • Cleaning: Clean the keypad and lever surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the finish or electronic components.

Troubleshooting

  • Lock Not Responding: Check battery levels and replace if necessary. Ensure all cables are securely connected.
  • Codes Not Working: Verify you are entering the correct 4-digit user code. If issues persist, try re-enrolling the lock with your Nexia Bridge.
  • Lever Not Retracting Latch: Ensure the tailpiece is correctly aligned and slides straight through the latch mechanism. Check for any obstructions in the door frame or latch bolt.
