The Brady M-120-492 cartridge is designed for use with the Brady BMP51 Label Printer and BMP53 Label Printer. Ensure your printer is compatible before installation.

  1. Power Off Printer: Before installing or removing any cartridge, ensure your BMP51 or BMP53 printer is powered off to prevent damage.
  2. Open Cartridge Door: Locate and open the cartridge compartment door on your printer. Refer to your printer's user manual for specific instructions if needed.
  3. Insert Cartridge: Align the M-120-492 cartridge with the cartridge slot. Gently push the cartridge into place until it clicks securely. Do not force the cartridge.

4. Operating Instructions

Once the M-120-492 cartridge is installed, you can begin printing labels using your compatible Brady printer. The B-492 material offers excellent print smudge resistance, solvent resistance, and high/low temperature performance.

4.1 Printing Labels

  1. Design Your Label: Use your BMP51/BMP53 printer's interface or connected software to design the desired label content (text, barcodes, symbols).
  2. Select Print Settings: Adjust print settings such as quantity, print darkness, and any specific material settings if prompted by the printer.
  3. Print: Initiate the print job. The printer will feed the label material and print your design.

4.2 Applying Labels

The B-492 Freezerbondz material is specifically designed for challenging laboratory environments, including frozen surfaces.

  • Surface Preparation: For optimal adhesion, ensure the surface is clean and dry. While B-492 can adhere to frozen surfaces, a clean, dry surface is always preferred if possible.
  • Peel and Apply: Carefully peel the printed label from its backing. Apply the label to the desired surface, pressing firmly from the center outwards to remove any air bubbles.
  • Cryogenic Application: For vials and tubes stored in liquid nitrogen, the B-492 labels can be applied directly to frozen surfaces. For secure adhesion, ensure the label wraps around itself by at least 1/8 inch (approximately 3 mm). This self-wrapping creates a strong bond that withstands extreme temperatures.

5. Maintenance

The M-120-492 cartridge itself is a consumable item and requires no specific maintenance. However, proper handling and storage will ensure its longevity and optimal performance.

  • Storage: Store unused cartridges in their original packaging in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Handling: Avoid touching the label surface or the ribbon directly, as oils from your skin can affect print quality and adhesion.
  • Printer Maintenance: Regularly clean your BMP51/BMP53 printer's print head and platen roller as recommended in your printer's user manual. A clean printer ensures consistent print quality and extends the life of your cartridges.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues while using your M-120-492 cartridge, consider the following common problems and solutions:

  • Labels Not Feeding or Printing:
    • Ensure the cartridge is correctly and securely installed in the printer.
    • Check if the cartridge door is fully closed.
    • Verify that the printer has power and is not displaying any error messages.
    • Confirm that the label material is not jammed or tangled within the cartridge or printer.
  • Poor Print Quality (Faded, Streaky, or Missing Text):
    • The print head may be dirty. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to clean the print head.
    • The ribbon may be running out or improperly aligned. Replace the cartridge if the ribbon is depleted.
    • Adjust the print darkness setting on your printer.
    • Ensure you are using genuine Brady cartridges.
  • Cartridge Not Recognized by Printer:
    • Remove and reinsert the cartridge, ensuring it is seated firmly.
    • Restart the printer.
    • Check for any debris or obstructions in the cartridge slot.
    • If the issue persists, the cartridge may be defective or incompatible.
