Safety Information

WARNING: X-ACTO blades are extremely sharp. Use with caution. Always wear safety goggles when handling or using these blades.

  • Always handle blades by the dull edge or base.
  • Keep blades out of reach of children and pets.
  • Use appropriate X-ACTO knife handles designed for No. 2 blades.
  • Dispose of dull or broken blades safely in a puncture-resistant container.
  • Do not apply excessive force, which can cause the blade to snap or slip.
  • Always cut away from your body.

Setup

  1. Select Appropriate Handle: Ensure you are using an X-ACTO knife handle compatible with No. 2 blades.
  2. Blade Insertion:
    • Carefully loosen the chuck or collar of your X-ACTO knife handle.
    • Grasp the new No. 2 blade by its dull base.
    • Insert the blade's shank into the chuck, ensuring it is fully seated and aligned.
    • Tighten the chuck securely until the blade is firmly held and does not wobble. Do not overtighten.
  3. Blade Removal:
    • Carefully loosen the chuck.
    • Using a pair of pliers or a blade removal tool, grasp the dull base of the blade and pull it straight out. Avoid touching the sharp edge.
    • Immediately place the used blade into a designated safe disposal container.

Operating Instructions

X-ACTO No. 2 blades are versatile and ideal for precision cutting in various materials. Always use a cutting mat to protect your work surface.

General Cutting Tips:

  • Material Compatibility: These blades are suitable for cutting paper, cardstock, thin plastic, film, and other light to medium-density materials.
  • Angle of Cut: Hold the knife at a shallow angle (around 30-45 degrees) for optimal cutting performance and control.
  • Multiple Passes: For thicker materials, make several light passes rather than one deep cut. This reduces strain on the blade and improves accuracy.
  • Straight Cuts: Use a metal ruler or straight edge as a guide for precise straight cuts.
  • Curved Cuts: For intricate curves, rotate the material as you cut, rather than trying to maneuver the knife in a tight arc.

Maintenance

  • Clean Blades: After use, gently wipe any adhesive or debris from the blade using a soft cloth. Avoid touching the sharp edge.
  • Storage: Store unused blades in their original packaging or a dedicated blade dispenser to prevent accidental cuts and protect them from damage. The blue oxidized finish provides rust resistance.
  • Replace Dull Blades: A dull blade requires more force, increasing the risk of slippage and injury. Replace blades as soon as they show signs of dullness or damage.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues:

  • Blade Wobbles in Handle: Ensure the chuck is tightened sufficiently. If the blade still wobbles, check if the blade shank is clean and free of debris, or if the handle's chuck mechanism is worn.
  • Blade Not Cutting Cleanly: The blade is likely dull. Replace it with a new one. Ensure you are using the correct cutting technique and a suitable cutting surface.
  • Blade Snaps Easily: This can be due to excessive force, cutting overly thick or hard materials, or a dull blade. Always use light pressure and make multiple passes for thicker materials. Replace dull blades promptly.
