2.2 Battery Installation
The RCA RCRPS04GR remote requires two (2) AA batteries (not included).
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the remote control.
- Press down on the tab and slide the cover off.
- Insert two AA batteries, ensuring the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals align with the markings inside the compartment.
- Slide the battery cover back into place until it clicks securely.

3. Setup: Programming Your Remote
Your RCA universal remote can be programmed using several methods. It is recommended to try Direct Code Entry first.
3.1 Direct Code Entry
This method involves entering a specific 5-digit code for your device's brand.
- Turn on the device you wish to program (e.g., TV, DVD player).
- Press and hold the CODE SEARCH button until the indicator light illuminates.
- Press and release the device button you want to program (e.g., TV, DVD-VCR). The indicator light will blink once and then remain lit.
- Enter the 5-digit code for your device's brand from the provided code list (refer to the separate code list document).
- If the code is valid, the indicator light will turn off. If the code is invalid, the light will flash rapidly.
- Point the remote at your device and press the POWER button. If the device turns off, the programming was successful.
- If the device does not respond, try the next code listed for your brand.
3.2 Auto Code Search
If you cannot find a code or direct code entry fails, use the auto code search.
- Turn on the device you wish to program.
- Press and hold the CODE SEARCH button until the indicator light illuminates.
- Press and release the device button you want to program (e.g., TV). The indicator light will blink once and then remain lit.
- Point the remote at your device and press the POWER button repeatedly (approximately every 2 seconds) until the device turns off.
- Once the device turns off, immediately press the ENTER button to save the code. The indicator light will turn off.
- Test other functions (e.g., volume, channel) to ensure the code is correct. If not, repeat the process.
3.3 Learning Function
The learning function allows the universal remote to capture specific commands from your original remote control.
- Ensure both the universal remote and your original remote have fresh batteries.
- Place both remotes on a flat surface, facing each other, with their infrared (IR) emitters aligned and about 1-2 inches apart.
- Press and hold the CODE SEARCH button until the indicator light illuminates.
- Press and release the device button (e.g., TV) on the universal remote that corresponds to the device you are learning commands for. The indicator light will blink once and remain lit.
- Press and hold the button on the universal remote that you want to teach a new function to (e.g., a specific input button). The indicator light will blink rapidly.
- While the indicator light is blinking, press and hold the corresponding button on your original remote.
- The indicator light on the universal remote will blink twice and then turn off, indicating successful learning.
- Release both buttons.
- Repeat steps 5-8 for any other functions you wish to learn.
- To exit learning mode, press the CODE SEARCH button.
4. Operating Your Remote
4.1 Device Selection
To control a specific device, press the corresponding device button at the top of the remote:
- TV: For your television.
- SAT/STREAM: For satellite receivers or streaming devices.
- DVD-VCR: For DVD players or VCRs.
- AUDIO-AUX: For audio receivers or auxiliary devices.
The indicator light will briefly illuminate to confirm your selection.
4.2 Basic Functions
- POWER: Turns the selected device on or off.
- VOL (+/-): Adjusts the volume of the selected device.
- CHAN (+/-): Changes channels on the selected device.
- MUTE: Silences the audio.
- Number Pad (0-9): Enters channel numbers or menu selections.
- OK/ENTER: Confirms selections in menus.
- GUIDE: Displays the program guide (if supported by the device).
- MENU: Accesses the device's main menu.
- INFO: Displays information about the current program or selection.
- BACKLIGHT: Illuminates the remote's buttons for easier use in the dark.
4.3 Preset Channels
To program your favorite channels:
- Select the device (e.g., TV or SAT/STREAM) for which you want to set presets.
- Press and hold the CHAN PRESET MODE button until the indicator light illuminates.
- Press one of the preset number buttons (P1-P0) you wish to program. The indicator light will blink.
- Enter the channel number using the number pad.
- Press the same preset number button again to save the channel. The indicator light will turn off.
- Repeat for other preset channels.
To use preset channels, simply press the desired preset number button (P1-P0) after selecting the appropriate device.
4.4 Master Power
The Master Power feature allows you to turn all programmed devices on or off simultaneously.
- Ensure all your devices are programmed into the remote.
- Press the MASTER POWER button. All programmed devices should turn on or off.
4.5 Macros
Macros allow you to program a sequence of up to 6 commands into a single button.
- Press and hold the MACRO button until the indicator light illuminates.
- Press one of the colored buttons (red, green, yellow, blue) to assign the macro to. The indicator light will blink.
- Enter the sequence of commands you want to store (e.g., TV, POWER, DVD-VCR, POWER, PLAY).
- Press the MACRO button again to save the sequence. The indicator light will turn off.
To activate a macro, press the MACRO button, then the assigned colored button.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Battery Replacement
When the remote's indicator light begins to dim or the remote becomes unresponsive, it is time to replace the batteries. Follow the battery installation steps in Section 2.2.
Important:
- Do not mix old and new batteries.
- Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc), or rechargeable (nickel-cadmium) batteries.
- Remove batteries if the remote will not be used for an extended period.
5.2 Cleaning
To clean your remote control, use a soft, slightly damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the remote's finish or internal components.

- Code not working: Try other codes listed for your brand in the code list. If direct code entry fails, try the Auto Code Search method.
- Some functions not working: If basic functions work but others do not, try a different code for your device. The learning function can also be used to teach specific missing commands.
- Remote indicator light flashes rapidly: This usually indicates an invalid code entry or an error during programming. Re-enter the code carefully or restart the programming process.
- Remote not learning commands: Ensure the original remote has fresh batteries and that the IR emitters are properly aligned and close enough during the learning process.
