3. Controls and Functions

Figure 1: Top view of the JOYO JF-10 Dynamic Compressor pedal, highlighting its three control knobs: SUSTAIN, ATTACK, and LEVEL, along with the footswitch and input/output jacks.

  • SUSTAIN Knob: Adjusts the amount of compression and the length of the note's sustain. Turning clockwise increases sustain and compression.
  • ATTACK Knob: Controls how quickly the compressor reacts to the initial signal. Turning counter-clockwise results in a faster attack (more immediate compression of the initial signal), while turning clockwise allows more of the initial signal to pass through before compression begins.
  • LEVEL Knob: Sets the overall output volume of the effect. Use this to match the volume of the effected signal to your bypassed signal, or to provide a boost.
  • Footswitch: Engages or disengages the effect.
  • LED Indicator: Illuminates when the effect is active.
  • IN Jack: 1/4-inch input for your guitar or previous effect pedal.
  • OUT Jack: 1/4-inch output to your amplifier or next effect pedal.
  • DC 9V Input: For connecting a 9V DC power adapter (center negative).

4. Setup and Connections

  1. Ensure your amplifier is turned off or its volume is set to minimum.
  2. Connect your guitar to the IN jack of the JF-10 pedal using a standard 1/4-inch instrument cable.
  3. Connect the OUT jack of the JF-10 pedal to your amplifier's input (or the input of the next pedal in your signal chain) using another 1/4-inch instrument cable.
  4. Power the pedal using either a 9V DC power adapter (center negative, not included) connected to the DC 9V input, or by installing a 9V battery.
  5. Once all connections are secure, you may turn on your amplifier and adjust its volume.

5. Power Supply

The JOYO JF-10 pedal can be powered by:

  • A 9V DC power adapter (center negative).
  • A 9V battery.

6. Operating Instructions

After connecting the pedal as described in Section 4:

  1. Press the footswitch to activate the effect. The LED indicator will light up.
  2. Adjust the SUSTAIN knob to control the amount of compression and the length of your notes. Start with a lower setting and increase gradually.
  3. Use the ATTACK knob to fine-tune how the compressor responds to your picking dynamics. Experiment with different settings to find the desired feel.
  4. Adjust the LEVEL knob to set the output volume of the pedal. Ensure there is no significant volume drop or boost when switching the effect on and off, unless a boost is desired.
  5. To bypass the effect, press the footswitch again. The LED indicator will turn off.

    • Check if the pedal is engaged (LED on).
  • Unwanted Noise/Hum:
    • Ensure you are using a regulated 9V DC power supply.
