1. Introduction

The Fujifilm FinePix JX400 is a 16-megapixel digital camera featuring a 5x optical zoom Fujinon lens, 7.2x digital zoom, and a 2.7-inch LCD display. 4. Setup

4.1 Inserting the Battery

  1. Open the battery/memory card compartment cover on the bottom of the camera.
  2. Insert the supplied Lithium-Ion battery (NP-45A) with the correct orientation, ensuring the contacts align.
  3. Close the compartment cover securely until it clicks.

4.2 Charging the Battery

  1. Remove the battery from the camera.
  2. Insert the battery into the supplied battery charger (BC-45W).
  3. Plug the charger into a power outlet. The charging indicator lamp will illuminate.
  4. Charging is complete when the indicator lamp turns off.

4.3 Inserting a Memory Card

The camera supports SD and SDHC memory cards.

  1. Open the battery/memory card compartment cover.
  2. Insert the memory card into the slot with the label facing the front of the camera, until it clicks into place.
  3. Close the compartment cover securely.

4.4 Initial Settings (Date/Time)

  1. Turn on the camera. If this is the first time, the date/time setting screen will appear.
  2. Use the directional buttons to set the date, time, and time zone.
  3. Press the MENU/OK button to confirm the settings.

5. Operating the Camera

5.1 Turning the Camera On/Off

Press the POWER button located on the top of the camera to turn it on or off.

5.2 Basic Photography (Auto Mode)

The camera's Scene Recognition Auto (SR AUTO) mode automatically detects the scene type and optimizes settings for best results.

  1. Turn on the camera. It will typically start in SR AUTO mode.
  2. Frame your subject using the LCD monitor.
  3. Press the SHUTTER button halfway down to focus. The focus frame will turn green when focus is achieved.
  4. Press the SHUTTER button fully down to take the picture.

5.3 Using Zoom

Use the ZOOM LEVER (W/T) on the top of the camera to adjust the focal length.

  • Push the lever towards T (Telephoto) to zoom in.
  • Push the lever towards W (Wide-angle) to zoom out.
  • The camera features 5x optical zoom and up to 7.2x digital zoom.

5.4 Recording Movies

The FinePix JX400 can record HD movies (1280 x 720 pixels) with monaural sound.

  1. Press the MENU/OK button to access the shooting menu.
  2. Navigate to the movie mode setting and select it.
  3. Press the SHUTTER button to start recording.
  4. Press the SHUTTER button again to stop recording.

5.5 Playback

To view captured images and videos:

  1. Press the PLAYBACK button.
  2. Use the directional buttons to scroll through your photos and videos.
  3. To play a video, select it and press MENU/OK.

5.6 Deleting Images/Videos

  1. In playback mode, select the image or video you wish to delete.
  2. Press the DELETE button.
  3. Confirm deletion when prompted.

5.7 Connecting to a Computer

To transfer images and videos to a computer:

  1. Turn off the camera.
  2. Connect the camera to your computer using a USB cable (sold separately).
  3. Turn on the camera. It will be recognized as a removable disk.
  4. Access the camera's memory card contents on your computer to transfer files.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning the Camera

  • Camera Body: Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a cloth lightly dampened with water or a mild cleaning solution, then wipe dry.
  • Lens: Use a blower brush to remove dust, then gently wipe with a lens cleaning cloth. Avoid touching the lens surface with your fingers.
  • LCD Monitor: Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth.

6.2 Battery Care

  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • Do not expose batteries to extreme temperatures.
