5. Installation
Proper installation is critical for the effectiveness of the Doorricade security bar. Follow these steps carefully:
5.1. Selecting the Correct Bar Size
Ensure you have the correct bar length for your door. The bar needs to be at least 2 inches longer than the width of your door to allow for proper overlap with the brackets. For example, if your door is 35 1/4 inches wide, a 38-inch long bar is required.

5.2. Mounting the Hinge Brackets
- Determine Height: Measure up from the base of the door jamb on one side to your desired height. It is suggested to install the bar just above the deadbolt for optimal security.
- Mark and Drill: Mark the pilot holes for the hinge bracket. Using the provided drill bit, pre-drill the pilot holes.
- Install Bracket: Install the hinge bracket using the provided 3-inch screws. For applications with a side light window, shorter 1 1/2-inch screws are included.
- Repeat: Repeat the marking, drilling, and installation process for the second hinge bracket on the opposite side of the door jamb.

5.3. Addressing Door Clearance
If there is a slight rub when the door meets the installed bracket, you can often avoid shaving off (mortising) wood to recess the bracket. Lightly hammer an impression into the edge of the door where it rubs until the rub is gone. Cover the door with a rag where hammering to prevent marring the finish.
5.4. Applying Foam Spacer
Adhere the high-density foam pad to the backside of the aluminum bar using the 3M tape. This pad protects the door surface and helps fill any small gap between the bar and the door.
6. Operation
The Doorricade security bar is designed for quick and easy engagement and disengagement.
6.1. Engaging the Security Bar
- Ensure the door is fully closed and locked.
- Swing the hinge brackets outward from the door trim.
- Insert the ends of the solid aluminum bar into the slots of the hinge brackets.
- Engage the quick-access thumb locks on each bracket to secure the bar in place.

6.2. Disengaging the Security Bar
- Disengage the quick-access thumb locks on both hinge brackets.
- Remove the aluminum bar from the brackets.
- The hinge brackets can then be folded flat against the door trim molding when not in use. This design provides a sleek and less obtrusive appearance and prevents snagging on clothing.
