5. Maintenance
Proper care and maintenance will extend the life of your Dritz Sew You Adjustable Dress Form:
- Cleaning: Wipe the fabric cover with a slightly damp cloth to remove dust or light stains. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as these may damage the fabric or plastic components.
- Storage: Store the dress form in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight to prevent material degradation. If disassembling for storage, ensure all components are clean and dry.
- Mechanism Care: Periodically check the adjustment wheels and dials for smooth operation. If they become stiff, ensure no fabric fibers or debris are obstructing the mechanism. A very light application of a silicone-based lubricant (safe for plastics) can be used on moving parts if necessary, but avoid over-lubrication.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your dress form, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Adjustment wheels/dials are stiff or difficult to turn. | Debris caught in mechanism; lack of lubrication. | Inspect for and remove any visible debris. Apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to the moving parts if needed. |
| Dress form feels unstable or wobbly. | Legs not fully extended or secured; pole not tightened. | Ensure all four base legs are fully extended and locked into place. Verify the center pole's height adjustment knob is securely tightened. |
| Difficulty adjusting overall height. | Height adjustment knob is too tight or loose. | Loosen the height adjustment knob sufficiently to allow movement, then tighten firmly once the desired height is reached. |
| Back waist length adjustment is stuck. | Internal knob not fully loosened; mechanism obstructed. | Ensure the internal adjustment knob is completely loosened. Check for any fabric or debris obstructing the sliding mechanism. |
