3.2 Adjusting Leg Height

  1. To extend a leg section, twist the corresponding leg lock counter-clockwise to loosen it.
  2. Pull the leg section outwards to the desired length.
  3. Twist the leg lock clockwise to tighten and secure the leg section. Repeat for all sections and legs until the desired height is achieved.

3.3 Attaching a Camera or Head

  1. The tripod features a mounting plate with a reversible screw. Ensure the correct thread size (1/4" or 3/8") is facing upwards for your camera or tripod head. To reverse, unscrew the mounting screw, flip it, and re-insert.
  2. Carefully align your camera or tripod head with the mounting screw.
  3. Rotate your camera or head clockwise onto the screw until it is securely fastened. Do not overtighten.

3.4 Using the Bubble Level

The integrated bubble level on the tripod's shoulder helps ensure your setup is perfectly horizontal. Adjust the leg lengths until the bubble is centered within the indicator circle for a level shooting platform.

3.5 Reversing the Center Column (for low-angle shots)

For extremely low-angle photography, the center column can be inverted:

  1. Loosen the center column locking collar.
  2. Pull the center column completely out of the tripod chassis.
  3. Invert the center column and re-insert it into the chassis from below.
  4. Tighten the center column locking collar to secure it in place.

4. Operating the Tripod

4.1 Adjusting Leg Angles

Each leg can be independently set to three different angles (25°, 55°, 80°) by pulling out the leg angle lock tab, positioning the leg, and releasing the tab. This allows for stable setup on uneven terrain or for achieving specific shooting heights.

4.2 Using the Feet

The SIRUI R-2004 is equipped with convertible rubber feet that conceal retractable metal spikes. For indoor use or delicate surfaces, use the rubber feet. For outdoor use on soft ground, ice, or uneven terrain, twist the rubber feet to reveal the metal spikes for enhanced grip and stability.

5. Maintenance and Care

  • Cleaning: After use, especially in dusty, sandy, or damp environments, wipe down the tripod legs and locks with a clean, dry cloth. If necessary, use a slightly damp cloth with mild soap, then dry thoroughly.
  • Leg Gaskets: The leg sections are equipped with special gaskets to protect against sand, dust, and dampness. Avoid disassembling these unless absolutely necessary and refer to professional service if issues arise.
  • Lubrication: SIRUI products are typically well-lubricated from the factory. If any moving parts feel stiff over time, a small amount of silicone-based lubricant can be applied sparingly. Avoid petroleum-based lubricants as they can damage plastic or rubber components.
  • Storage: Store the tripod in its carrying bag in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Inspection: Periodically check all screws, bolts, and locking mechanisms to ensure they are secure. Do not overtighten.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Tripod is unstable:
    • Ensure all leg sections are fully extended and their twist locks are securely tightened.
    • Verify that the leg angle lock tabs are fully engaged at the desired angle.
    • Check the ground surface. Use the metal spikes on soft or uneven ground for better grip.
    • Ensure the camera or head is securely mounted to the center column.
  • Leg sections are difficult to extend/retract:
    • Ensure the twist locks are fully loosened before attempting to adjust.
    • Clean any dirt or debris from the leg sections and inside the twist locks.
    • Apply a small amount of silicone lubricant if necessary.
  • Bubble level is not centered:
    • Adjust the length of individual tripod legs until the bubble is centered.
    • Ensure the tripod is placed on as level a surface as possible.
