Setup
Initial Charging
Your G-Shock watch is equipped with Tough Solar power, meaning it charges using light. Upon first use or after prolonged storage in darkness, expose the watch face to bright light (sunlight or strong artificial light) for several hours to ensure a full charge. The power indicator on the digital display will show the current charge level. Maintain a high charge level for optimal performance.
Time Setting (Atomic Timekeeping)
The Multi-Band 6 feature allows the watch to automatically receive time calibration radio signals. For best reception, place the watch near a window at night. The watch will attempt to receive signals up to six times a day (five times in China). Manual reception is also possible. Ensure your home city setting is correct for accurate time synchronization.
Operating Instructions
The watch features multiple modes and functions accessible via the side buttons. Refer to the button labels on the watch bezel for 'ADJUST', 'MODE', 'REVERSE', and 'FORWARD'.
Mode Navigation
Press the MODE button to cycle through the different functions: Timekeeping, World Time, Stopwatch, Countdown Timer, and Alarm.
World Time
In World Time mode, use the REVERSE and FORWARD buttons to scroll through 48 city codes (31 time zones). Press ADJUST to toggle Daylight Saving Time (DST) on or off for the selected city.
Stopwatch
In Stopwatch mode, press FORWARD to start/stop the stopwatch. Press REVERSE to reset. The measuring capacity is 59 minutes, 59.99 seconds. Supports elapsed time and split time measurements.
Countdown Timer
In Countdown Timer mode, set the desired countdown time (from 1 minute to 100 minutes) using the ADJUST button to enter setting mode, then REVERSE and FORWARD to change values. Press FORWARD to start/stop the timer.
Alarms
The watch features five daily alarms. In Alarm mode, use REVERSE and FORWARD to select an alarm. Press ADJUST to enter setting mode and set the alarm time. Press FORWARD to toggle the alarm on/off.
Hand Shift Function
To temporarily move the analog hands out of the way for a clear view of the digital displays, press and hold the MODE button for approximately two seconds while in Timekeeping mode. The hands will shift to a position that does not obstruct the digital readouts. To return the hands to their normal timekeeping position, press and hold the MODE button again for two seconds.
Maintenance
Water Resistance
This watch is water resistant up to 200 meters (660 feet). It is suitable for swimming, showering, and diving. Avoid operating buttons while the watch is submerged to prevent water ingress.
Cleaning
Clean the watch regularly with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a mild soap solution and rinse thoroughly with fresh water, then dry completely. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
Solar Charging Best Practices
To maintain optimal battery life, expose the watch to light whenever possible. Avoid covering the watch face with clothing for extended periods. Even indirect light can contribute to charging. If stored in darkness, the power saving function will activate to conserve energy.
Troubleshooting
- Digital Display Difficult to Read: In low light conditions, the negative LCD displays may be less legible. Use the auto LED light for illumination. The analog hands are luminous for time reading in dim environments.
- Time Not Synchronizing: Ensure the watch is placed near a window overnight for optimal reception of atomic time signals. Verify your home city setting is correct. If issues persist, attempt manual time signal reception.
- Low Battery Indicator: If the power indicator shows a low charge, expose the watch to bright light for an extended period until the indicator returns to a high level.
- Hands Not Aligned with Digital Time: Perform a hand home position correction. Refer to the full Casio module 5230 manual for detailed steps on adjusting hand alignment.
